It's a positive expression. I don't see anything wrong with adding more positivity into life.

I agree with the sentiment of the OP. It's a word that is overused. Part of what I term language inflation. You cannot just be 'sorry' it seems, you have to qualify it, for example.

Better than "awfully excited" or "awfully sorry".
