The healthiest biscuits that are actually nice

I have a terrible packet of biscuit habit and I need to wean off onto something a bit healthier, but I can't go cold turkey which probably would be a better choice 😉----

What's the best and healthiest. Also I'd prefer not zillions in a pack and I can't stop myself. I'm otherwise a healthy eater, exercise, active and don't drink. Maybe a tad overweight due to the biscuits though.

I always felt that fig rolls were somehow wholesome?

Rich tea. I like them with a cuppa and they're bland enough so that I don't want eat the whole packet.

Rich tea are my go to for a biscuit that seems less indulgent.

Nairn’s oat biscuits are very nice, and seem quite wholesome.

I read somewhere that for biscuits go for jaffa cakes and for crisps go for twiglets. More air than anything else and lower fats but seem like a treat.

Kit-kats are also mostly air so perhaps wafers are an alternative.

If you're willing to make your own there's a quick recipe I got from musmnet which is just oats, banana, butter, oil, baking powder. Freeze well.

Ginger Nut biscuits

An uncle who’d had a heart attack was told by cardiologist to stick to ginger nuts. I buy ginger nuts, Marie and thin arrowroot. In my mind as they are quite plain, seem healthy for a biscuit. Digestives are quite sweet and rich tea are higher in fat. I also like Nairn’s choc chip or ginger oat biscuits but you can end up eating 5 in one go as they come in small packs.

I think those 'blue ribond' watery chocolate biscuits are quite low, calorie wise.
So are jaffa cakes.
Caramel snak a jacks are tolerable.

Mcvitie’s light rich tea.
No palm oil and reduced fat.

Me too

Currently nairn's coconut and chip seed ones are hitting the spot. 99p q box in aldi atm and 45 cal a biscuit which I think isn't bad..

And I'm sure chia seeds are meant to be the be all and end all these days😆

No such thing as healthy biscuits and if you can't stop yourself from eating a whole packet, it's probably best not to buy them.

However, if you're in danger of being a whole pack trougher but need to buy biscuits for example, it's worth bearing in mind that a pack of chocolate digestives has around 1300 calories, but a pack of Jaffa cakes 'only' has around 500 calories.

Or you could try and not buy biscuits at all and when you are desperate, walk to your nearest shop and buy one small biscuit type thing and just have that?

Probably works out more expensive per biscuit than a big pack on special from the supermarket, but you won't spend more overall and you're protecting yourself from 'accidentally' eating more biscuits than you plan to.

Rice cakes?

Jaffa cakes do a box with 3 per pack. Would they satisfy your biscuit craving? I do think it would be better to not have biscuits in the house. And whilst in the beginning you could choose a day to buy a pack. Then you know its OK I can go buy some on Friday for example.

The Nairn’s coconut & chia seed ones are gorgeous and come in little separate packs of 5 within the packet which might help with rationing.

Another vote for Nairns.

They are nice enough to have 1 or 2 but not so nice you want to eat more in a sitting.

The seeded ones are really nice, also something like dried berries as they are a little sweet, and oh my god the cheese ones. I think they may do a ginger one.

Other low cal biscuits

  • water biscuits although cheese tends to find its way onto mine
  • rice cakes especially the dark chocolate coated ones

Could you buy the little bags of 2 or 3 biscuits like you get in hotels? Catering Assorted Biscuits 25 g (Pack of 48) [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DUSKLBM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Y7HWEWV1EPQKJ6S4KYFD?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 this type of thing]]. Hide the main box somewhere a bit inconvenient - car boot, attic,’garden shed, cellar, under the floor boards - and just get out one pack a day?

You can get those Lotus biscuits in packs of twos. They’re 37 calories each, so a packet is 74 cals, but no idea re fat/ palm oil etc.

Depends what you define as healthy

Low calorie, artificially sweetened, low fat is not healthy.

Low carb, low sugar, is better, so Nairn's tick that box.

However, as they're meant to be an occasional thing you'd be far better off making your own. Loads of oat based recipes out there.

Rice cakes?
My go to for break time at school are caramel snack a jack's. I eat one (50 calories ish). They take a while to eat and are sweet enough to feel like a treat.

My weakness is malted milks though, and dunked in warm whole milk. The calcium is good though...

If you still want a treat could you freeze your own biscuit dough then bake one at a time? I'd go for the ops banana oat biscuits though. They sound great.
