I walk briskly for 3.5 miles a day before work and I'm doing around 15,000 steps a day according to my fitbit. For those that lead active lives would you say this is adequate? I'm trying to lose the stone I put on over Christmas so I'm watching my diet also.T.i a.

If this is your normal amount you need to up it for weight loss, but really you exercise for fitness and the battle of the bulge is fought in the kitchen.

Kimye4eva · 04/03/2021 22:37

@Midlifephoenix is right I’m afraid. Weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise. Although there is no doubting that being generally active is a big help.

Most weight loss is down to diet, i.e. taking in fewer calories than you expend. The walking is beneficial, especially if you are raising your heart rate. Strength exercise using bodyweight and/or weights helps build muscle. Having more muscle and less fat raises your metabolic rate and means you burn more calories even when you're not doing anything. Oh and you'll look more toned.

How have you hit on 1300 calories? What are you doing to count calories? How much weight have you lost over how many weeks?

BrownEyedGirl80 · 04/03/2021 23:35

I used to do 1200 when lost weight before but as I'm starting up again thought I'd try slightly higher to begin with

It's adequate if you're not eating more calories than you burn.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 05/03/2021 08:56

That's fine then OP - if you stop losing and are genuinely not exceeding your calorie limit then you might need to cut again.

I used to think I needed to eat low carb to lose weight, but with the strength training I do that's not necessary. I weigh about 9lb more than I did as my lowest weight, but my body shape has transformed and I fit into clothes I fit into in the past. In particular my upper body strength has improved and I no longer avoid.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 05/03/2021 08:57

What happened there? I no longer avoid sleeveless tops.
