Best platform to sell used items?

Hi! I don't really sell online, but I bought a brand new Chromebook at the weekend, and realised that it's just not for me, I just prefer Windows OS. Can't return as package was opened, so am trying to sell online, but am nervous of scammers as I see on TV! So please, can I have some of your experiences on selling on the various sites and any tips to avoid a scam, say someone saying I sold them a faulty item? The places I'm considering are:

  • eBay
  • Facebook Marketplace
  • Shpock
  • Gumtree

I know that selling with eBay/PayPal offers some protections, but I've only had to use them to settle a dispute as a buyer. I've heard stories of people paying for an item then opening a claim with PayPal saying that the item is damaged and PayPal siding with them, and I don't want to lose my money AND the item!

Any tips please?

Don't post anything via Hermes. Keep receipt with weight of items on it from the post office

Remember eBay/PayPal both take a cut of the sale price (don’t sell through Friends/Family on PayPal as you lose protection too).

You could sell on FB marketplace and only take cash on collection but puts you at risk of having the item stolen (obviously not everyone is a scammer).
