Rubbish tips and queues

Is it just round me? We don’t have many tips in our big city. Went this morning, the queues to get in were ridiculous. It’s like this every time we go. People had been waiting an hour, and lots were being turned away.

How are you supposed to get rid of crap?

You queue!

Ours have cameras so you can check how busy it is before you go.

It was much better in the first lockdown when you had to book a slot.

Bluemandm · 04/03/2021 12:38

Same round here. I bought a hippo bag and then paid a local rubbish disposal company to come and collect it

FlibbertyGiblets · 04/03/2021 12:38

Our council has slots to book using numberplate.
Could you try going dead on opening time, or say at school pickup time, when loads of people are busy elsewhere? Or chose one that is a bit further away, up a stupid narrow lane or whatever?

Rillington · 04/03/2021 12:40

You have to book an appointment at ours. They brought this in last year. No queuing whatsoever.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/03/2021 12:40

Its booked slots only here now (since Covid). Its so much quicker!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/03/2021 12:42

There’s no quiet time!!! It’s bloody rammed all the time. We look on the website, it suggests quiet times and then you go and it’s like the world and his wife are trying to get in!

Very jealous of those who book slots.

Now that really is annoying. Grrrrrr!

Rillington · 04/03/2021 12:44

Why don't you suggest it to your council? It was a trial here but it works so well.

soontobeanana · 04/03/2021 12:44

We also have to book slots now since covid. Much better system and I hope they continue with it. Can only book 1 slot per week which is a bit of a pain when your doing lots of DIY but we store it until we can go.

Previously you had to queue and the site is just off a main road with a ring road. Used to cause all sorts of problems with tailbacks.

Your city is either short of tips, or too many residents are having clear outs.

I've been at lunchtime in the week three times over the past few months and it was straight in and straight out each time. DP has also been first thing on a Sunday morning and found the same.

We have to book, but we've always been able to get a slot within a few days, although this is aided by me WFH so I can always pop out at lunchtime if needed.

The city is short of tips unfortunately😢

Have you tried to go at a different time when the council is not telling people to go because it's quiet?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/03/2021 12:59

Dh has just ranted at me that we have 1 tip per 100000 people and they are all on one side of the city.

OP posts:
Rillington · 04/03/2021 13:02

We have one tip in our city for 325,000. If you have more than one you are very lucky.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/03/2021 13:06

We also have one tip per 100000 population but fortunately they're quite well spread out.

I remember the days when you could just go to your nearest one, but we aren't allowed to do that any more because it's in a different borough and you have to use those in your own area only.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/03/2021 16:00

It’s just been in the local press how bad it is!

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/03/2021 16:03

Why are there queues? More rubbish or shortened opening times?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/03/2021 16:05

More rubbish.....

Screwcorona · 04/03/2021 18:53

Reckon it's because of more people at home, so more diy. Also Airbnb's opening up soon so probably people sorting them out.

amusedbush · 05/03/2021 00:33

I’ve been to the tip twice in the past few days (having a massive clear out while we’re stuck at home!), once at 9am and once at lunchtime. I was straight in and out within ten minutes, no need to schedule a visit. Both times there were only two other cars there.
