Can anyone recommend a hotel in Reykjavik?

We’ve booked a trip for next spring, neither of us have been before. Can anyone recommend a hotel that’s clean and central? Also, would anyone recommend hiring a car?

Any tips on things not to miss would be brilliant too!

Leifur Eiriksson, opposite the Hallgrímskirkja. Comfortable b&b, fast free wifi, good solid help yourself breakfasts. All of the interesting stuff is within 10-15 minutes walk. Don't know about car unfortunately.

The Reykjavik REsidence hotel was awesome (& a treat - not cheap) - fantastic location and a really well designed family suite. YES YES YES to car hire - set your own timetable for visits without being dependent on a coach picking up from multiple locations and dumping you at eg a waterfall / geysir with 30 other people. Stay a few nights out of Reykjavik if you don't like long journeys - we went SE so Vik and somewhere the other side of Diamond beach that I can't remember right now. that way you can get to eg Reynisfjara beach before the coach loads and have a more relaxed approach. IT's a trip that requires a decent amount of research in advance but that will pay dividends. (Reynisfjara beach was my favourite I think)
