In praise of teenagers

One of mine has recently turned into a giant man, in appearance anyway. Walking the dog with him I saw a small girl shrink away from this hulking bloke but he caught her eye and gave her a bit of a smile as he shrank to the side a bit. I mentioned it and he explained that now he now does a nod and smile to women alone when they are sharing a late night pavement, women with small kids, and a blokey nod to other men, especially if he has a friend with him. As his best mate is 6ft 6 the pair of them look pretty big together but are as lively as could be. This man boy has caused me some horrors over the years but now he looks after his little sibling, walks the dog and tries not to worry little girls or anyone. So much bad press for so many teens but they are as cute as the fat thighed chubster toddlers they once were.

That's lovely to read. They get such a bad press but I've worked with teens for over 20 years and they're fab.

Pre covid we were on a train and got stuck in a carriage with a very drunk stag party and a group of teenage hoodies. I was on my own with two young children. The stag party were getting more and more rowdy lots of swearing, inappropriate sexual discussions etc. In the end some of the teenage boys stood up and gave them a good telling off about how there were women and children on the train and they should mind their language then came and sat with us and let the kids watch cartoons on their phones. I was so unbelievably proud of them I may have had a little tear in my eye.

They are fab. Bunny that is so lovely. It’s funny I was saying the same to my boy that I never worried about boys in hoodies but men in suits on the piss. A good while ago my boy and a friend found a confused old lady and they did all the kind things you would expect and passed her on to a local police officer. The same week my frail dad was taken ill and was sat very obviously unwell at a bus stop while the adults around all ignored him.
