Smear test = day out!

I've got a smear test this afternoon. Tempted to paint my nails she and put some mascara on since it's an "outing".

I've only left the house to walk loops around the village for the last month so it feels like a day out!

Good lord, this is what things have come to.

Ha ha ha! I know exactly how you feel, I had mine just 2 weeks ago and it was an adventure out (long drive, country roads to my GP).

I wore nicer clothes (and underwear instead of the usual horrid ones) just for myself really.

The nurse was very chatty as usual and it was so nice to talk to someone other than DH!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 02/03/2021 14:10

This explains why so many of my patients arrive so well dressed! Especially noticed it during vaccination clinics for the older/CEV groups where people hadn't been out for nearly a year. Lovely to see, go for it!

Just remember for smears you'll need to get undressed on the bottom half so no dungarees or tights lol

I had a dentist appointment last week, it felt like a real treat! Definitely a sad state of affairs but I'm hoping to hold onto this appreciation of the little things going forwards. I'm so looking forward to just having a cup of tea in the garden with a friend.

squashyhat · 02/03/2021 14:14

I had some essential shopping to do so thought I would get the car washed while I'm out. Clearly everyone is treating it as a day out! 4th in line and still waiting..

Avaganda · 02/03/2021 14:23

I had mine yesterday and it was great! I haven't been out on my own for almost a year as I usually have a trail of children with me. To just lie there and have a chat with an actual grown up was awesome!

MyCatHatesOtherCats · 02/03/2021 14:32

It’s really weird wearing a mask and no knickers. Just saying.Grin

EssentialHummus · 02/03/2021 14:32

Had mine about a month ago and it was the highlight of the week! The nurse complimented me on being very well dressed for a smear because I wore a giant A-line skirt that I could just swoosh up.

I'm quietly wondering if more women are having smears just to get out of the house Grin.

I felt like this about going for my mammogram and was secretly rather disappointed that they were so well organised and speedy. I was hoping for a good long wait!

Jackparlabane · 02/03/2021 14:35

I put on makeup for blood tests last week. And then snuck into a shop by the bus stop and an empty bakery for a big chocolate cake on the way home.

First time I'd been in a shop all year, felt as rebellious as going to hospital appointments in school hours and then shopping on the way back, swearing blind the waiting took forever...

Toddlerteaplease · 02/03/2021 14:38

I was due my period the day of mine and was praying it would hold off. As was actually looking forward to it. What have we come to?!

MrsComte · 02/03/2021 14:40

It was really quick unfortunately Grin

I wanted to beg the nurse to chat to me for longer.

Imagine 5 years ago thinking a smear was a nice day out.

A smear test then stopping into the co-op for a scotch egg on the way home. Party!

Yes I had blood tests yesterday and the nurse apologised for the wait when she took me through, I told her do not apologise I got to sit on my own for 10 minutes without being pestered by my children, bliss!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/03/2021 16:13

I felt exactly the same about my Smear, and my Vaccination appointment!
For a hospital appointment, I wore a brand new top and lipstick( under a mask, but still) and stopped for shopping on the way home!
