Period face?

BrotherlyLove · 02/03/2021 13:45

Does anyone else get period face. I hate it .
I look about 100 in the week of my period. It seems to be really bad now I'm over 50, but my skin sags, it's puffy, dark circles, just a general look of shiteness and then it goes back to normal until next time ..

I do sometimes look dreadful and other times look ok. Not noticed it's around my period though but I have a ton of health conditions so maybe there's a whole host of problems! I'll keep an eye out on my cycle and face to see if there's a connection.

Is it before your period or when on your period?

CruCru · 02/03/2021 19:24

I often sleep badly when my period is heavy so look tired and run down for the first few days.

OhWhyNot · 02/03/2021 19:27

Yes I get this am told I look tired

I also leak pee I can’t help put pass a little pee I don’t at other times Confused

eyeoresancerre · 02/03/2021 19:27

Yes - I look about 5 years older during my period. Haggard and fat and puffy!

duchesspodcast · 02/03/2021 19:30

When I was in the peri menopause, before I took hormones for it (actually the pill rather than hrt for now), my face went grey and my skin was visibly thinner.

Taking hormones restored it (joy!) so I'm certain it's a hormonal thing. Lack of oestrogen maybe?

Delatron · 02/03/2021 19:35

Yes! I think I look better mid cycle. When ovulating and this would make sense evolutionary wise. Lots of oestrogen apparently makes us looks good (or something)
Then oestrogen drops just before period starts and I age about 5 years and look awful. Then I start to look better just as period is finishing.

It’s a thing.

OhWhyNot · 02/03/2021 19:41

It’s amazing how our body changes throughout our cycle

I find it fascinating the evolution behind the changes

But not having full control over my bladder just before my period doesn’t make any sense Confused unless not only looking like an old hag I need to smell a bit off to repel men Grin

Worriedmother666 · 02/03/2021 19:45

No I get a lot of spots though one very big one above my lip.

CurrentWife · 02/03/2021 20:24

Yes. For 7 years doing the bloody school run one of the mums used to say to me once a month - every single bloody month - “you look tired”.

frick · 02/03/2021 21:03

Yes! I have even been calling it “period face” to myself for a while now. Look a bit grey, tired, generally shite. Unite period faced sisters! Grin

Ladywinesalot · 02/03/2021 21:06

Yes, I look and feel like shite

Delatron · 02/03/2021 21:23

I was so pleased when my wedding day fell mid cycle. That’s how dramatic I feel the difference in my face is...

TheByngster · 02/03/2021 21:26

Same! Skin loses all lustre, high redness on cheeks. DRY.

LaceyBetty · 02/03/2021 21:28

Yes! I noticed it the very first time I started my period (I was 14, so good memory of it). I felt so ugly the week before and when my period arrived, I felt I looked like myself again. Not sure if it's all in my head. Has been happening now for 30 years!

dudsville · 02/03/2021 21:36

This is most definitely a thing and I most definitely experience it. Leading up to my period though I get "the hunger". Nothing fills me up, and I become constipated for a day or two, what joy! I then start to look dull. Then period and a few days into it I claw my way back. I'm anxious about menopause. Will I just look like this worst phase of my cycle all the time???

dudsville · 02/03/2021 21:38

*ohwhynot", I get the sensation of slight incontinence but I've tested it by wearing a pad and nothing actually leaks. It's the weirdest sensation though. Like you said, why???

Delatron · 02/03/2021 22:06

I’m really worried about menopause.

If it’s due to a drop in oestrogen then that’s the
permanent state of affairs then. Period face forever.

I can’t even take HRT for health reasons...

OhWhyNot · 02/03/2021 22:36

dudsville glad I’m not the only one

I think I’m having peri menopause symptoms brain fog sometimes stop mid sentence and can’t remember a simple word, scaly dry Itchy skin, wild candy floss hair, aggression Blush, overly emotional but it’s manageable when and if it feels like it’s not I shall be taking anything and everything

namechangealerttt · 02/03/2021 22:42

I have been doing aquaflex vagina wights to try and tone things up, even in the booklet they say not to do them on your period, I think due to the lack of oestrogen, it all gets weaker down there on your period, so you can't hold them in in the same way. I have only been doing them a couple of months and my ability to hold the weights seems to start decreasing from mid cycle.
It is not just Period Face that is a thing...Period Loose Vagina is too!

MuggleStudiesResearchProject · 02/03/2021 22:45

Thanks to zoom I now know that my face looks very puffy and round just before my period, a bit saggy and jowly during it, and so much better with cheekbones and some tautness around ovulation. I'm perimenopausal too.

Fridainexile · 02/03/2021 22:52

Yes my nose changes shape. My face gets all puffy, even my hands get fat. Fat hands! It’s unreal but true. Then of course the chin spots, the 9 month pregnant belly , shit hair, ovulation face pubes, thunder thighs, pudding arms, big moon of arse that looks like pilsbury dough.... dare I go on ?!

DramaAlpaca · 02/03/2021 22:54

Postmenopausal now but I don't remember this. Maybe I just look horrendous all the time Grin

FurrySlipperBoots · 05/03/2021 18:59

I erupt in angry acne. I'm 32 for God's sake! Angry
