It's World Book day on Friday

and my daughter has been frantically trying to find a costume for my grandson that will be delivered on time. It's sorted now thankfully.

It reminded me of times gone by when my three were little, and I worked, and had no help from anyone at all, and still I managed to make the required costumes and felt great when the homemade outfit was worn with pride (my pride :) by my child, and all the other outfits similarly so by classmates.

I'm not showing off at all, it's just what we did. Buying these outfits was not even a consideration for us mums back in the day :)

As an aside, his outfit is a onesie so it won't go to waste. I wish onesie's were around in those days.

Happy days !

DS is going to be Percy Jackson. Jeans and a jacket. Sorted.

Our school has decided to give the 'school' kids a non uniform day so the 'home' kids don't feel left out. I'm very happy that they've been that considerate.

I've given my DDs the job of sorting their own costumes for online Cubs. One has decided to go as a library as she can't decide... (Drawn books on a white t-shirt with fabric pens)

WBD is what I classify as a competitive parenting day and I refuse to engage (as I'm completely rubbish at craft...)

They probably didn't exist back in the day though so I guess it wasn't even an option? These days you can't walk into a supermarket without seeing a load of shiny costumes ready to be purchased for World Book Day.

Last year I 'made' a costume for DS but I still had to buy certain items of clothing and accessories to customise them; a couple of items he already had. I do enjoy crafting though so I don't blame people who don't like it and order something online.

I tend to agree with your last sentence

Hi Op, just to ask have the school moved it to the Friday (which they are free to do!) as the 'nain' World book day is Thursday 4th. Just wanted to check so your Grandson doesn't miss out!

Hope he has a lovely day!

JoyOrbison · 02/03/2021 12:06

Black tights, stuffed with newspaper, black trousers and black top... Charlotte from Charlotte's Web etc... That was our go to outfit!

2020nymph · 02/03/2021 12:06

Isn't it on Thursday?

DS1's school are doing mufti day.

DS2 are dressing up but he is going to raid the fancy dress box.

World book Day is supposed to be about inspiring a love of books in children. The nicest idea I heard was a school that did a bedtime story day and the children came in pjs or a onesie.

He goes to nursery on Fridays so it's Friday for him this week. Thanks for mentioning this !

DD is wearing her snow leopard onesie and going as Lord Asriel's daemon (His Dark Materials). Sorted.
