I mean most people know about things like peanut allergies but what else do you know is an allergen?

Someone I know (on here btw so hi if she sees this) her ds is allergic to tomatoes

I’ve never heard of a tomato allergy before so that was interesting

I am allergic to mosquitoes, wasps and bananas (possibly also latex)!

KickAssAngel · 04/03/2021 02:02

I'm so glad other people have mentioned being allergic to heat. DH has developed this. He gets a prickly heat rash, then his lips swell up then his throat starts to close.

So far benadryl keeps it contained, but I have no idea what could happen if he got a temperature that lasted several days. So long as there's no pandemic that could cause him to run a fever for several days we'll be fine.

LemonSwan · 04/03/2021 02:06

I knew someone at school who was allergic to sunlight! All the windows on the school had to be changed and he had to wear pretty much a space suit with a window. Plus side he would of been laughing through covid

What would happen if exposed? Would it be skin problems?

Sooverthemill · 04/03/2021 10:52

@AliceSprings123

For those allergic to penicillin, can you tell me how this manifests itself? Thanks.
Exactly the same as the poster below. Huge welts, hives, weeping skin, swollen leg ( I had it injected 4 times a day in 1966 when aged 8 in hospital for 3 months). At the time they had never seen anything like it and had to ask a London hospital for advice . The doctor told me very terrifyingly that if I ever had another dose I would die. Prefer not to risk it!
justilou1 · 04/03/2021 11:29

@Sooverthemill
Penicillin allergy can manifest as skin rash, (hives) can itching, etc. Can make people violently sick, or anaphylaxis.

Hoppinggreen · 04/03/2021 11:37

DD has trouble breathing if she eats Quorn.
I wouldn’t say I am allergic but if I eat even a small bit of pepper (the big ones not chillis) I get severe stomach cramps and wind for about 4-6 hours and then my stomach feels bruised for a couple of days. I can taste instantly if they are in anything, even a small amount

Sooverthemill · 04/03/2021 11:42

@justilou1 I think that’s for @AliceSprings123 Smile I’m well aware of how it affects me!

justilou1 · 04/03/2021 11:44

Sorry! I’m Hopeless!

Stressedmummyof4 · 04/03/2021 11:49

Have a dd with allergy to apple egg and just one of our two Guinea pigs, comes out in swollen eyes and hives with the ginger one but nothing with the black one

TenCornMaidens · 04/03/2021 11:55

@Hoppinggreen I wonder if this is what my MIL has. I have a friend whose mushroom allergy affects her stomach lining, I wonder if this is what happens for you?

Hushabyelullaby · 04/03/2021 12:26

My friend is allergic to raw tomatoes (fine when cooked). Her lips get massively swollen and they and her mouth get sore and tingly.

I am allergic to Micropore, the sticky tape often used by GP's, phlebotomists, and hospitals. I'm fine with any other kind of sticky tape (eg Transpore et al), and plasters. That's the only thing I've ever come across, including food/drink, that I'm allergic to.

Hushabyelullaby · 04/03/2021 12:44

@Justanotherfaceinthecrowd

I was a premature baby. (31 weeks in late 70s) I have allergies to:

Kiwi.
Pineapple.
Nuts.
Horses (horrendously, epi pen)
Wasps
Prawns
Crab meat
Penecillin (but this is due to over exposure at work)

Allergy clinic link allergy status to prematurity allegedly.

Ooh interesting. I was born at 28 weeks in 1975, and the only thing I've ever discovered or been told by medics that I'm allergic to, is Micropore.

GnTplease · 04/03/2021 12:47

Mad to see other people with OAS - I've never met anyone else with it. I can't eat lots of fruit (apples, pears, plums, cherries, peaches, nectarines...the list goes on), some nuts and my birch tree pollen allergy is horrific.

3CCC · 04/03/2021 12:53

I'm allergic to salt in high concentrations. Like salt dough, sometimes the sea

At work have come across
Feathers
Kiwi
Horses
Latex
Penicillin

Puffalicious · 04/03/2021 13:03

Not rtft so maybe someone else has said- im allergic to taurine, the active ingredient in Red Bull and some toothpastes. Not crazy allergic but couldn't work out why my lips swelled on nights out until my dentist asked what I'd been drinking, vodka red bull was all the rage in the 90s! Coupled with teeth brushing after a might out i was Angelina Jolie for days at a time. I suppose if I ever fancied lip botox I could just start drinking it again. Grin

LemonSwan · 04/03/2021 13:08

Liquorishtoffee
I dont know Liquor. We were young and told not to mention it so we didnt and just went about our normal day. I have just googled and its called xeroderma pigmentosum

Pandoraslastchance · 04/03/2021 13:10

Tegaderm dressings(the clear ones used to cover cannulas)

Elastoplast tape/plasters as well.

Jaxhog · 04/03/2021 13:10

I'm allergic to celery, which is common in France but not the UK (where I live). This makes salads and soup a bit of a gamble.

whenwillthemadnessend · 04/03/2021 13:12

I'm allergic to horses dogs rats

Mushrooms penicillin other types of fungi

Wbeezer · 04/03/2021 13:14

I get polymorphic light eruprion, i come up in hives in very strong sunlight! Luckily i live in Scotland so it's not usually a problem, but it did happen again last summer when i ventured out in shorts in the nice weather.

CommanderBurnham · 04/03/2021 13:15

I'm allergic to mosquitoes. I literally get a line of a rash where they've walked. So I get walk line and intermittent bites, which produce a nasty localised allergic reaction. I've had one criss cross over my face and bite my eyelids once. I looked awful.

Dollywilde · 04/03/2021 13:16

@TenCornMaidens

Oh, and one of my aunts is allergic to aubergine and the other is allergic to lychees.
Oh I’m allergic to lychees! It’s so weird - I’ve never met anyone else with it, I just searched this thread on the off chance Grin
TheOnlyPurpleLlama · 04/03/2021 13:26

My son is allergic to potatoes.

raerae12 · 04/03/2021 13:38

My son is allergic to potatoes, tomatoes, eggs, dairy, peanuts and some tree nuts. My other son also has a mild dairy allergy and an allergy to a chemical in high factor sunscreen (we've not been able to determine which). He can wear up to a factor fifteen but no higher at the moment which makes summer tricky as he's very fair skinned.
