Overseas marriage records?

Just wondering if it's possible to view this information online anywhere, in order to find out if a British citizen got married overseas? Nothing showing up for a UK marriage when I checked so wondered if you can check anywhere for records of overseas nuptials. Thanks.

If it is historic then a site like Ancestry might tell you. If more recent, not sure but I would have thought anything under 20y ago would not be in the public domain.

Back in the day, Somerset House (as it then was) had a special section for overseas marriages of UK citizens. I assume it's successor still does. Whether this is available on-line I don't know. Have a look at the Registrar General's website. All UK marriage records are in the public domain.

Thanks everyone. Yeah it would have been under 10 years ago. I got married overseas myself and can't see the record online. Never heard of Somerset House but will have a look at the registrar general.

Do you know where overseas the marriage took place?
If you don't find anything, I am happy to do a bit of searching if you PM me the details.

Hi no I don't, not 100% sure they are actually married but trying to find out and there's nothing showing for UK weddings so thought I'd see if anything came up for overseas.
