Covid hair loss

So MIL had Covid before Christmas and has started to experience hair loss. It comes out in clumps and she only has to run her fingers through it to get loads of strands out. She mentioned this in conversation with someone who is a hairdresser and they said that a lot of her clients have had the same after Covid.
Has anyone experienced this and are there any shampoos/serums she can use to help?

My friend is a hairdresser and said the same, no advice sorry.

I'm not sure about covid hair loss specifically, but a good vitamin B complex with biotin or hair and skin supplement should help.

I have this currently. I have no advice, but it helped when I read that it won't all come out and it will grow back.

I had this last year, have learned it’s common after an illness and is called Telogen Effluvium. It’s very distressing, handfuls were coming out in the shower so I was scared to wash my hair. I took vitamins called Perfectil Hair. No idea if they helped or not but the shedding stopped after about 6 weeks. I probably lost about 1/3 of the thickness of my pony tail but new hair started growing through quite soon after. Wishing you the best of luck.

Yes it will get better, heard an expert speak on the radio. Apparently at any one time 1/3 hair is growing 1/3 is alive and a 1/3 is dying. After a virus it can knock out the pattern so they merge together so some times 2/3 maybe on a falling out cycle so can feel dramatic. But in 6 months or so they do go back To their old routine and any lose should be normal.

I don't think it's covid solely that causes it, I think it's triggered by stress and being unwell, can happen after surgery too. It should pass.

My MIL had this after Covid. She lost nearly all of her hair and had to buy two wigs. It was so upsetting .... BUT, eight months on and her hair has grown back and looks fantastic. I honestly don't think anything you take or put on your hair or scalp will make any difference whatsoever. It's just a matter of time.

I don't know for sure that I had Covid a year ago, but I am certain I did, because so many of the symptoms that were later identified (Covid toes/fatigue/conjunctivitis/chills/extreme muscle aches) I had. And a few weeks after I started to recover, my hair got thinner. I wouldn't say it fell out in clumps, but certainly I noticed far more hair loss when washing/brushing.

I don't think it is necessarily Covid, it happened to me after Swine flu a few years ago, and Shingles prior to that.

Anyway, I started using Plantur 39 Caffeine shampoo, and it has made a noticeable difference. Took about a fortnight, but definitely helps.
