How to hide someone on Facebook messenger conversations?

Sold something through a local Facebook group. Apart from blocking the person, how do I make it so they can’t see when I’m on/they pop up in the people at the top in green/active etc

You can turn off your seen status in the settings.

I can't remember if it's in Facebook or Messenger settings but it's definitely there. I've recently deactivated so I can't check.

I don’t want a random to see when I’m online or not/them always sit there in my messenger app in green at the top, but also don’t want to go to the extent to block them and not see things posted in a local community group.

As long as you didn’t friend them, I don’t think They can see your active status

They can if you've messaged them.

The only way AFAIK is to block them.

If you do t want to block them hide your seen status for everyone, that solves it and you can put your seen status back up when the current issue has passed.
I don't like the seen status anyway, no one needs to know when you're on FB or how often.
