I am not from the UK, but was brought up reading pony books and Famous Five and Swallows and Amazons.

Now we are in spring I am becoming inspired by te thought of a proper picnic.

What is in yours?

In mine (literature inspired) I would have;

French onion soup laced with sherry in a flask (Thank you Rosamunde Pilcher 'Winter in Solstice')

Proper ham rolls with fresh bread and english mustard

Boiled eggs with a screw of salt

Ripe plums or apples or pears

Real gingerbread

icecreams

Strawberries with cream

Orange ade

Ooo, I would have:

Fresh bread and real butter.
Selection of cheeses and pickles
Some cold meats for the meat eaters
Strawberries
Melon slices
Grapes
Rose wine

Lovely!

Oh Bliss :)

I am not sure what it is about fresh fruit eaten outside. It truly feels like manna from heaven.

I like taking a flask of coffee out with me when I walk the dog. It feels like bliss.

Any combination of

Crusty bread with sea salt butter
Ripe Brie
Mini sweet tomatoes
Pork pie
Celery with cream cheese
My mum’s homemade sausage rolls
Perfectly ripe strawberries
Scones with jam and clotted cream

A couple of things I've added to our boring usual fare when the weathers nice are a Tupperware type tub with several different flavours/shaped crisps from small bags. The variety feels nice.

A small tup filled with different pickles and onions.

When it's warmer I'm going to try scoops of ice cream in a Stanley flask (making sure kid neck is big enough to get them out!) and small bowls/spoons. Maybe more little tubs of nice toppings.

And now I see why I end up with a shit tonne of washing up when we get home!

Nice thread idea OP. Loving your super posh ideas Smile

Sorry should have said pickles and olives!

rawalpindithelabrador · 01/03/2021 19:10

Sausage rolls!

Barrantsvidal · 01/03/2021 19:27

Crusty bread
Tomatoes fresh from the garden
Decent cheddar
Thickly sliced ham
Home made chutney
Chilled bottle of wine
Sparkling water
Maybe some fancy patisserie in a box from deli/bakers for pudding

Barrantsvidal · 01/03/2021 19:27

Should be crusty baguette, not just bread. Freshly baked that morning Smile

mbosnz · 01/03/2021 19:28

A cooked chook
Lovely crusty bread
Naice Ham
Smoked salmon
Butter
Mayonnaise
Naice cheeses, chutney and crackers
A bottle of Cloudy Bay Sav Blanc.

Mmmm.,... definitely a cooked chicken.

Ice cream in a flask!! That is inspired!

Sadly no-one in my household are as into picnics as I am (or the outdoors). But I do recall a lovely picnic I had when the DCS were small. I took them to the playground, lay on a blanket with a magazine and we had cold sausages, cold chicken, strawberries, cheeses and bread, cucumbers and I had a mini bottle of rose. That was very nice.
