Can't update iPad could anyone advise please?

I've had to fire up my slightly older iPad today as DP had to take his to work.
I have my DCs homeschooling app installed on it and have used it in the past but we've defaulted to DPs as mine had a crack on the screen.

Now I can't use the app, it says I need to update to a newer iOS, I have tried in settings but it won't let me as it says I have to connect to a computer and use iTunes in order to download the update - well I haven't got a computer

We can't do any school work and won't be able to catch up if we don't do it today. Does anyone have any advice at all? Can I get around the needing computer bit?

It won’t update unless you have a computer. You need to log into your I tunes account on the computer and plug in the tablet and it will update from there. Don’t worry about homeschooling, have a day off!

Can you download the school app on a phone and use that instead? Unfortunately there’s no way round updating the old iPad without connecting to a computer
