WWYD (re. Nursery applications)

Hi all

DC is currently attending a preschool. We have applied for a place at their nursery to start in Sept 2021 . If successful, they will let us know end of march/beginning of April. We would rather dc go to this nursery, if possible, due to proximity and familiarity. However, as there is no guarantee that dc will get a place at this nursery we have applied to a few others. If successful our second choice will let us know in about 2 weeks. If we get an offer from our second choice, i am thinking of accepting it (in case we do not get an offer from our first choice), and then possibly cancelling the placement if our first choice offer us a place later on? Is this even possible? Surely everyone is compelled to apply for more than one nursery in case they don't get the one they want, do people just accept the first offer in these circumstances? WWYD?

It depends where you live, how oversubscribed they are etc. etc. My DCs went to the same nursery (my workplace nursery) from about 10 months till they started school, but we couldn't always get exactly the sessions we needed.

What do you lose if you take a place then back out? Do you have to pay a deposit? Are you worried the second nursery will look at you funny?

Thank you for replying. DC is 3 now and the nursery place will be funded. So I don't think we would have to pay a deposit. This is a nursery that is attached to our local primary school. Yes, I am worried that the second choice nursery will look at me funny if I were to cancel the placement . They will also be our second choice for primary school and wonder if we wouldn't be offered a place in their primary(even if we are eligible) because we messed them about for nursery. I doubt that could happen as primary places are allocated by the LA so I would have thought its unlikely , but it is a worry. We are sort of forced into applying for a number of nurseries in case we don't get our first choice and now I am worried about what do to if we get more than one offer!

I doubt they'd even remember. Someone else will be glad of the place.
