Is there a way of tracking down someone who is possibly dead or in prison?

For curiosity sake mostly.

DD's father. Left 4 years ago and we haven't seen or heard from his since. Neither has his family. He ran out on a load of bad debt in the night with his girlfriend. I heard he was in Cornwall a few months later but haven't heard anything since. He was messed up in drugs before he left and I suspect has either ended up with a huge drug problem or is in prison.

There is NO trace of either of them on social media, his girlfriend in particular was always on facebook and instagram before they ran off. Not a trace since. It's not that they have just blocked me, I've checked with other accounts and neither of them have any accounts anywhere.

Nothing in the local press for Cornwall regarding their names. I suspect they are using different names to avoid the debts they ran out on.

Child maintenance cannot find any trace of him using his name, DOB or NI number for work.

I've googled the kind of work he does in Cornwall to see if anything comes up. Nothing.

His number was cut off the day after he left.

I just want to know for DD's sake really. Is there anything obvious I am missing?

Well if he's ran off due to debt he's going to be keeping a very low profile and unlikely to be on SM.

The only other thing I can suggest is to try the 'Find my past website.
Where you simply type in his name, year of birth, year of when you think his "death" may have accured. Don't worry if you're not sure of the actual year. The site gives you a 5 year window. Something may come up there.

Maybe contact the missing people charity? I think they would be able to advise if not help.

He may have taken on a new identity, even possibly taken someone's NI number who is no longer around (e.g left the country) Cornwall is quite notorious for smuggling and just if he was into drugs, he could be under the radar doing cash in hand or potentially left the country. But most likely he has changed his identity and doesn't want anyone knowing. If he was in prison you would have found out. If he was a John doe and dead, his family may have been tracked down to identify or provide DNA so you would have likely heard. Even though its hard to disappear, people do manage to do it.
