For the first time in my life, I need ornaments... please help!

I’m not an ornament person. Never bothered before, but I have two spaces that need something...

I have a wooden unit in the hall (stores gloves/ scarves and shoe cleaning products). I want a nice ornament (is that the right word?) something on the top to stop it becoming a dumping ground and to make it look a little more 'planned'.

I have a new coffee table. It’s bigger than the last one and looks a little 'empty'. What do I put on it to avoid this? (Nothing tall).

I was going to put a fruit bowl on the table, but the fruit works better in the kitchen/ diner area.

Trays are a very 'in' look for coffee tables at the moment (think brass, etc). Treat it as a massive coaster! A large decorative plate could serve the same purpose.

I like functional ornaments... clocks, photo frames, lanterns for candles, vases...

Clocks! Good point. A nice wooden one, maybe?

Didn’t think about trays.

I would use artificial plants in pots. Sainsbury's do nice ones, as does The Range. You can buy artificial succulents, or real if you prefer, the same sort of low height as a fruit bowl, which would work on a coffee table.

A wooden clock would be lovely!

Depending on the height of your storage unit, a lamp might work well?

I have a tall lamp in the hall (there’s no plug near the unit) and I don’t want to use an extension lead.

Traditionally, lamps are my go to ornaments Grin

Look on eBay for vintage ideas for ornaments / vases etc but be warned it can get addictive!

I now have an entire cabinet of vintage Szeiler & Goebel cat figurines & antique Chinese cloisonné trinket boxes... topped off with old Sylvac vases.

Ooh and I have a beautiful vintage raspberry crystal glass fruit bowl that I'm too scared to put actual fruit in.

It’s actually really hard to find a nice simple wooden clock!
