NHS App and accessing medical records

Has anyone who has successfully downloaded the NHS managed to obtain their full health record. If so, do you mind sharing how you did it?

No not enabled on my gp site can only book appointments

HandyBendySandy · 28/02/2021 19:57

Yes I've got it on mine - fascinating, I was trawling back through blood tests earlier to see if my thyroid function had ever been checked!

I don't recall how I did it exactly - just followed the prompts, although it was quite involved. Had to allow the app to access two pictures of me, I think the GP practice had to verify it or something then there were some declarations to agree to for data security etc.

But I'm not especially technical and I got there in the end. I wonder if your GP practice has to have the ability to authorise access?

Different surgeries use different systems.

I had to ask the surgery in writing and they gave me a log in to the system they use (Patient Access) but other surgeries use different systems and have different ways of granting access. Some are not yet even signed up to a workable system.

Patient access doesn't give access to full records but I can access all my test results and there is a 'kind of' summary' which is pretty crap and in some cases wrong. Contacts over the past few years are listed. I can, in normal times, book appointments and can order repeat prescriptions.

Do you mean a record from your GP practice? I too got permission from my GP and got a log in. It was as easy as contacting the GP practice and completeing a form.

Their records showed that I apparently used to chew 1.09kg of chewing tobacco a day!!! I have never even tried chewing tobacco, and finally managed to get this removed from my file! Certainly worth getting and useful to look back at when tests and procedures were done.

DownWhichOfLate · 28/02/2021 22:53

1.09kg?! Shock. So many questions! Such an odd amount for a start.

Elouera · 28/02/2021 23:19

@DownWhichOfLate- I finally worked out that the 1.09kg of tobacco I apparently chewed a day Hmm was recorded in Jan 2009. I can only think the record was completed incorrectly and they got the date right, but my diagnosis as very wrong?!?

Thank you for the replies, this is really helpful. I have got past the initial; log in with the two Identities accepted. I will email my G P practice regarding the personal records,

I tried. Got a whole letter about why accessing it would be really wise and am I really sure. We moved house not long after and so couldn’t. Wish I had chased it up quickly though. Wonder if I still can (presumably stuff from old practices follow me).

I did it last week when I read they might be using the app in the future as a vaccine passport system, figured I may as well get it sorted now.

Did the photo ID bit and waited a couple of hours and everything was there straight away. I think your GP surgery need to have opted you/themselves in for online access, so if you speak to them they should be able to sort it.

GransKitchen · 18/03/2021 17:31

Has anyone managed to do this. I have the app but can only make appointments. Unable to view blood results or anything, do I need to contact the gp practice

florentina1 · 18/03/2021 20:09

I emailed the practice after originally posting this. My records were released after 3 weeks. I just kept checking each week. Not every record was available. Some said contact your GP for this information. I was able to load test results and any letters that had been sent to me.
