Twin Troubles

My boys are 15 and a half months adjusted and are still not saying dada or mama. I am freaking out and need advice on what i can do, as i read that kids who take longer to talk have less intelligence.

I understand your worries, my boys are a month younger and the same but there's no reason to assume it's a reflection of lifelong intelligence. Speech is a skill but it isn't about them being smart enough per se

Not sure DD could say mama or dada at 15 months maybe but that might have been it. She wasn't talking at 17 months but a month or so later there was an explosion of words.

She was signing at that age though, milk, mum, dad, her friends nickname, toilet, food that kind of thing. I really recommend doing sign language, it's not going to slow them down just gives them something to work with while they figure out speech.

Please don't think that! My youngest son didn't really talk till nearly 3...and tho quiet now can argue for England! He is a well adjusted, well liked young man who is studying quantity surveying at uni.. Please try not to worry.. X

The older of my twins couldn’t talk until she was five. She has a 2:1 in Literature and is an executive project manager for an ad firm.

When you say "adjusted" were they very premature? What does your health visitor think? Please try to enjoy them and not worry.

Twins are often slightly later to talk than singletons, it's not necessarily a reflection of intelligence

SleepingStandingUp · 28/02/2021 20:46

@Lyonic how old are they actual?

Lyonic · 01/03/2021 09:24

They are 17 months, 15 and a half adjusted
