I’ll start - Club Derwent (Club D?) nights at York University. Hilarious, often themed, exceptionally cheap pints.

Anyone else?

Met my partner there.
I think also the simplicity of living so close to my friends. Everyone was just a short walk away as we lived in the student area of the city.
Now we’re in our 30s we’re all spread out and need to organise logistics when we meet up (in non covid times). I think I took for granted that we were all a stone’s throw away.

BigPaperBag · 28/02/2021 19:58

Best three years ever. Had a fab group of mates and we’d go out on all these fancy dress nights. The getting ready but was probably just as good as the night out. The uni balls were immense, dancing at the silent disco and doing the macarena. Drinking fish bowls and doing shots until we 🤮🤮 So many good memories, some of the happiest times of my life 💗💗

Mara2021 · 28/02/2021 20:07

I didn't choose the right university or course for me (way too full of posh kids), but there were some lovely memories - watching Murder in the Cathedral performed by the drama society one summer night in the quad (no, it wasn't Oxbridge or Durham, but it had pretensions to be...), and another performance of Twelfth Night where one of the cast was a professional actor and he brought out the very best in the other actors, plus Sunday afternoons walking round the lake. Plus Sunday nights at the Odeon for 99p if you were a student - those were the days!

Camomila · 28/02/2021 20:29

Royal Holloway Mara2021 ? I used to love going for a Sunday Roast and then walking along to Virginia Water

The Barley Mow was my favourite pub, we went a few years ago with DHs course mates and assorted DHs/DWs and babies and it was just as nice as 10 years before. Will have to organize another meet up when restrictions stop.

SiulaGrande · 28/02/2021 20:46

All of it GrinAlso at York. Goodricke bar, the Goosehorns funk band playing Vanbrugh, feeding the ducks in the middle of the night, the cinema in Museum Gardens, Sunday lunch at The Charles in my pyjamas, wandering the city, lounging on the riverbank, non stop talking with great friends, a lot of laughter. Loved my course, the university, and York itself.

@SenecaTrewe

The sweating walls of the Purple Turtle in Oxford.
You’re giving me flashbacks. Gruesome ones. Grin

Loved it
Made lifelong friends
Moved me from quiet working class kid on the road to the professional woman I am now
Only hope the current students get to enjoy it soon

CaledonianMacBrayne · 28/02/2021 21:01

The amazing freedom of it all.

CoffeeWithCheese · 28/02/2021 21:02

Klute. So bad, so very very bad, but in such a good way with the badness. Followed by a Penis Kebab (poor Beni was always getting the bottom of his B nicked)

Durham in case anyone didn't know the legend that was the second-worst nightclub in Britain.

CoffeeWithCheese · 28/02/2021 21:04

I'm back at uni at the moment and they really lack the epic cheesiness and sheer joy that we had... they're all organising (or were pre-covid) pre-drinks and munching overnight oats and berries in lectures! This time around I'm loving the sheer academic challenge of it - and pushing to get a first.

custardbear · 28/02/2021 21:05

Degree: Nottingham Trent so Rock City is the most amazing place for decent nights out - campus was Shit-Faced on a Thursday ... was actually called shipwrecked but we changed the name lol

PhD - Notts university- campus wasn't great but the campus 13 stagger was fun apparent, never did that - we stuck to clubs and bars - Nottinghsm is fab!

My brother was in Manchester - loved Jabbez Clegg

MrsJBaptiste · 28/02/2021 21:07

The drinking, making lifelong friends, the random shags...

I loved it. Anyone else used to go to Reds bar @ Northumbria on a Friday afternoon/night?

I just wish I'd listened to everyone who said don't go to Uni having left a boyfriend at home. I partied hard for 2 years, he waited at home, oblivious. Yes, I know... 😔

QueenofLouisiana · 28/02/2021 21:49

Norwich, mid 90s.

Walks home at 2am, taking twice as long because you had to stop for chocolate and condoms at the garage on the way home. Drinking lambrini with your housemates before you went out at 9pm. You’d been getting ready since the end of neighbours.

Sweaty nights at the LCR with £1 pints or £1.10 for snakebite and black.

Learning a subject that I never knew existed until then. The chance to read for hours on end.

Standrewsschool · 28/02/2021 21:53

Being carefree in a way never experienced before or since.

Went to a small campus university which meant you mixed with a real cross section of people.

claracluck1978 · 28/02/2021 21:59

Another former York student here. Goodricke Bar, Hansom Cab pub quiz, Roses weekends, Toffs, The Gallery, so so many fun nights!!!

ContadoraExplorer · 28/02/2021 22:00

Circuits of the Liar to see who was in. Harassing Lindsay in the DJ booth in Mono to play the songs I wanted (a resounding fuck off mostly but I still love him). Duelling banjos at the end of the night. And a chilli burger and chips in the Phoenix to cure the hangover. Man, I miss uni!

@shinyme - first quote and tag didn't work but another Dundee graduate here Smile
Wherearemymarbles · 28/02/2021 22:05

Coffee
Haha, Q-ball c1988 was worse than Klute
Beer rotted floor boards...

Durham was shite for night clubs - there were only 2!!

Then a Friday evening spent in Dryburn hospital because either you’d had too much too drink or more likely you’d been beaten up by a local.

Dunn cow challenge many tried few succeeded. Cant even remember the challenge but it something like all drafts in 5 minutes

sluj · 28/02/2021 22:08

The Sugar House in Lancaster, 9 bars on campus, the JCR, the Roses weekend, trips to the Lakes, Merrydown cider, disco on the pier in Morecambe, County extravaganza, fantastic gigs in the Great Hall - just about everything about Lancaster was wonderful.

NerrSnerr · 28/02/2021 22:14

I loved my university years. I loved all the drunken nights, the men (one who is now my husband 20 years later) and my course. What I loved was the independence, doing what I want when I want. I turned 18 in the August before university and my parents were really strict so I loved living away from home (and by the second year was in my university town the full year round)

GriseldaChop · 28/02/2021 22:57

MrsJBaptiste - Reds bar on Friday afternoons! Loved it! Dobson and Ritzy on Monday night, Carwash at Planet Earth on Tuesdays, maybe the boat on Thursdays! Loved my time at Uni and love all the friends I made. Best memories. Grin

Yup. Ah, happy days. I used to live upstairs from the Phoenix, that was nice. I also really loved the Galleon, best nachos ever, plus you could sit next to the zebra...

All of this and the Alex and Fylde JCR and huge tatty student houses in Dallas Road. Double decker buses lined up in the underpass to take us out clubbing and return us at the end of the night. The hitching post and never having to pay to get into town. Loved my time at Lancaster, I was very sad to leave and have to face the real world.
SnuggyBuggy · 02/03/2021 06:11

Those times when with almost no planning or effort a group of us would come together and have a blast just spending an evening together. It's such a slog arranging get togethers now that we are all spread so far and all my attempts to kick start a similar social life in the real adult world were such a poor substitute. Uni was the only environment where I felt like I found my people.

IAmJackieWeaver · 02/03/2021 06:36

Loved all of it. Happy happy times in Oxford in the early 90s....
