Have you ever skinny dipped and what's the bid deal about it?

My late teen DC think its a bit obscene. But I have very happy memories of skinny dipping. - ie swimming nude - as a teen and a student. It was only a couple of times but it was a group of us at night - once (sort of) breaking into an indoor pool and another time outdoors. It was such fun and very spontaneous. Its felt so free and liberating.

Most recently I did it in a billabong in Australia with my boyfriend. I was 50 and it a was in a remote area and nothing sexual about it. Just bloody lovely. Swimming in a river and some little waterfalls in the nude.

But when I mention it to people they seem very prudish about it and very few of my friends have done it. Have we lost the spirit of freedom and nature?

Yes, many times. With my dear Mum. My parents had a place on a lake and on hot summer nights we would wait until it was dark to take a cooling skinny dip before bed. Heavenly.

Lived on the coast as a teen and several times did so just with friends or the occasional boyfriend but as you say nothing particularly sexual about it. Just fun a bit rebellious and free spirited

I am 48, I wonder if the ubiquity of cameras (on phones) now is what puts younger folk off? The possibility of being "caught" being more likely?

We didn't have to worry about that and I think it made many parts of my childhood and teen years much freer and more joyful, especially for girls as I didn't have to worry about someone snapping or videoing me skinny dipping, sunbathing in undies, or even just with purple hands and lips from berry picking and eating!

One time was the gang of us getting clean after a literal mud slinging fight and we "washed" our clothes and dried them too so we wouldn't be in trouble with our parents for mud fighting!

Another was a cool off after an ill advised strenuous bike ride undertaken in a heatwave! Which possibly prevented us developing heat stroke thinking about it!

It's a joyous, innocent, sensuous activity a shame it's losing popularity.

Lots of times in the sea. I had to stop because my ex husband went skinny dipping when we were drunk and I thought it was funny to steal his clothes and run away. Actually, it was very funny but he is no longer my husband (true story).

Loads of times, yes. Also gone to clothing optional beaches and hot springs.

Nothing obscene about it.
I wouldn't choose to go naked in front of people I don't know, but I'm old enough to accept that my body is what it is.

Yes its great. Im 30 and sadly the last time i did it was 25 in alcudia

The feeling just came upon me and poor dh held my clothes....it was very late at night

Yes! In little bays off the Greek coast when we were sailing. It just feels really liberating! I would do it again but it would have to be somewhere secluded. I am not an exhibitionist, I need a very quiet spot!

It so lovely. I hope I do it again before I get old and grey and limited in my freedom. I sometimes think people think being naked is unnatural when its the opposite of it. Glad lots of you have done it too. I'd love to do it off a boat or in some warm island waters. And its definitely more fun with other people.

I hope my DC get to do it too. But as you say - without cameras and phones. Just enjoying the water on your body. Its so free.

Yes, with a male friend and my adult daughter, local swimming pool, we just had to climb over the wall.
It was a full moon that night.........amazing!

Yes, we are lucky to have lived near nude beaches for the last dozen years, and have always camped in wilderness areas where we could skinny dip.
We did as teens as well, at night, in groups, loads of fun.

Gorgeous memories, I could be named as skinny-dipping-champion, really, could tell stories till sundown, me. Grin
Most memorable, albeit, not in a romantic way, was swimming naked in the bioluminescent waters of the Indian Ocean. Unearthly.

I have swum without clothes in spas in the Netherlands. Just more comfortable.

Yes many times, on naturist beaches. Once you get over the first wtf, take your kit off and stroll down the beach to the sea, you realise no ones interested in you or what you look like naked. Liberating.

I skinny dip in a river by my house every summer. It's a bit difficult to access and behind a bend so I would see someone before they saw me. No one wants to film me skinny dipping these days anyway, I ain't so skinny Wink

I love swimming in the nude, it feels much freeer. You dry quicker as well. My kids have grown up skinny dipping, although as they actually are skinny the rivers and lakes are much too cold for them and they prefer full on wetsuits!
