All Right Now by Free or Layla by Derek and The Dominoes ?

Which song would you rather hear ? Both are rock classics from the same era, perhaps they could be described as musical cliches. But I'd much rather listen to All Right Now. For a 1970 song, it was ahead of its time and has stood the test of time. Paul Rodgers' vocals are excellent and there is a great guitar solo that builds from nowhere.
Layla, whilst unquestionably a good song, just doesn't do it for me. Ironically, it will likely be Eric Clapton's most high-profile legacy.

Misheard lyrics for me on All Right Now....for years I thought 'parking ' as in 'let's move before they raise the parking rate' was a sweary word beginning with F and ending in G.

Exactly the same here!

Oh I'd forgotten I surrender!

I'll swap for that!

Ditch them both and play Rainbow "All Night Long" :)

With those horrible sexist lyrics, about a possibly underaged girl? No thanks.

It's Layla for me, but I like Alright Now too.

Layla is fantastic, want that blasting out at my funeral followed by Bat out of Hell. Don't want it to happen too soon though 😕Grin

I prefer Wishing Well, but I can sing All Right Now remarkably well when I'm drunk, or at least I think I can.

The intro to Layla is amazing, but I lose interest after that.

The guitar on I Surrender is fantastic, I love the way it follows the vocals.

Onlinedilema · 28/02/2021 07:49

I surrender is far better.

cariadlet · 28/02/2021 08:17

I like them both but I'd go for Fire by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown.

desperatehousewife2 · 28/02/2021 08:25

Between ARN and Layla, Layla without a doubt but throw Wishing Well into the mix and that beats them both hands down for me! Love Paul Rodgers’ voice

FunnyWonder · 28/02/2021 08:35

Layla. Love it. Love the strained, pained vocals and of course that guitar. Brilliant!

ARN - but as others have said actually prefer Wishing Well
