Ideas of 50 things as present for best mate

My friend is 50 in September and my other friend and I want to get her presents in 50s, if that makes sense. I’ve got a £50 voucher for something already and can probably get another one for somewhere but we wanted to try and include things in 50s too, so far we’ve only thought of 50 photos and 50 quotations...

Anyone done this before or have any good ideas!?
We’ve got a bit of budget between us but not a massive one!!

I bought my dh, 30 gifts. Some big gifts but some were things like brown sauce.

Chocoqueen · 27/02/2021 20:21

50 bars of chocolate (or other treat)?

BearEastie · 27/02/2021 20:21

50 1 penny coins
50 second hand books
50 wildflower seeds
50 metres of string / yarn / twine

To be honest, I would get her things she can use or get rid of quickly. It would drive me nuts if someone did this to me as I hate clutter.

Does she have a lot of storage?

50 chocolates/bars. 50 cupcakes. 50 blown up balloons. 50 news articles about the year of her birth. Ancestor/relatives tree with 50 spaces to fill or filled.
50 of something related to her hobbies eg 50 walks if she likes walking?

JaninaDuszejko · 27/02/2021 20:24

Just buy her one decent thing that she'll like instead of a load of crap. Honestly, most of it will end up in landfill before the year end.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/02/2021 20:25

50 Cent album!

Loopyloututu2 · 27/02/2021 20:29

The most thoughtful gift my dh received for his 50th was an album with 50 photos of himself from a baby to present day (maybe you could enlist her family to help out?)

WonkyCactus · 27/02/2021 20:29

I love chocolate but if someone got me 50 bars I'd just give them away!
Could you get her 50 small presents in total, rather than 50 of each thing?

user1487194234 · 27/02/2021 20:31

Personally I would hate this
As pp said please try and make it things she can use up quickly
50 photos
50 bedding plants
50 posh chocs

ChameleonClara · 27/02/2021 20:32

This could be a bit overwhelming, I would be fairly annoyed if someone gave me 50 books - do they have a very large shed they can store all this in??

It is nice you are being so generous but gifts must be what the receiver wishes to receive, not what the giver wants to give.

I think a £50 voucher plus the 50 photos sounds enough tbh.

ChameleonClara · 27/02/2021 20:33

50 bedding plants = a lot of gardening they will be required to do...

BarbaraofSeville · 27/02/2021 20:34

Please don't. No 50 YO woman wants that.

AlohaMolly · 27/02/2021 20:36

Does it have to be 50 of 50 things or just 50 things?

I did 60 gifts for my mums 60th and two of them were a year of monthly subscriptions so 24 in total. One was a bloom and wild subscription and the other was a subscription to a book club where you can tailor the profile and it sends her a book a month. She’s loved both!

Does your friend like gardening and does she have a favourite place/country? I live in Wales and sent my mum some welsh poppy seeds as another present. I also made a memory book and contacted people from her childhood all the way through her life and asked for their favourite memories of her and collated them all.

Loveacuppa · 27/02/2021 20:38

A funny poem of 50 words?
A playlist of 50 songs?
Is a bottle of gin the equivalent of 50 shots?

HurricaneBitch · 27/02/2021 20:39

My dh is 50 this year, I'm buying him 50 gifts of varying value. Mr Men is also 50 this year, the Royal Mint are doing some special coins to celebrate.

Loveacuppa · 27/02/2021 20:41

A scented candle that burns for 50 hours?
5 x manicures would be 50 nails

TheChosenTwo · 27/02/2021 20:43

I’d cry if someone bought me that amount of ‘things’ unless it was easy to share out between others (ie cupcakes) or other immediately consumed edibles/drinkables - I hate ‘stuff’ as does dh and we have made our house as stuff free as possible!!!
Vouchers are a nice option, as are seeds if she’s in to gardening. Maybe a bottle of wine or something like that from her year of birth? I don’t know, I would just feel overwhelmed at the amount of new things to find homes for that I wouldn’t want, it would really stress me out. I have a home for everything I own and if something else comes in, generally something has to go.
Saying that, your friend may be very different to me!! You obviously know her very well and care a lot about her, it’s a lovely thought.

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/02/2021 20:46

A list of 50 things to try and do in the next year? You will know what she likes to put on there. Some easy to tick off and others funny or more challenging.

Those saying they’d hate it I know some friends who would love it and some who wouldn’t like it so much, but I’d trust the OP to know what her friend might like 🙄

Loveacuppa · 27/02/2021 20:49

You could do something for 50minutes based on her own interests e.g. 50 minute massage / facial / some kind of activity.

ChickenDinnerChecky · 27/02/2021 21:15

Thanks so much. Love the idea of the Royal mint... and the balloons. 50 minute massage sounds good as well. She’s not for a bit garden but I do like the seeds idea!
Yeah I don’t want to get her a load of trashy stuff she’ll bin and she’s also pretty environmentally friendly. Good points.

Also really like the idea of 50 articles from when she was born.

I’ve got my dad on the case of a decent wine from 50 years ago, may be a bit of a long shot.

Also like the idea of 50 things to do in the next year. Think I may have enough now!!

Knew a quick thread would help!

The 50 things for dh won't all be stuff to keep, for example, he loves Topics, so he'll get 4 of those, he likes beer, so is getting 6 bottles, there's 10 down already, lol

SparkysMagicPiano · 28/02/2021 12:31

Sorry OP but I would hate this.

Such a waste of time, money and energy.

Just buy her one thing that you know she would really like.
