National Offer Day - anyone nervous?

DS11 didn't do as well as we had hoped or expected in the 11+ (thanks Covid) so we are desperately hoping for our first preference of local school. Not our catchment school but is the closest to us and we really liked it. A strong academic focus which will suit our son and also high expectations on behaviour which we liked.

Am getting nervous though as the other options are just not as good for DS, though are good schools. If the email doesn't come through early Monday morning, I'm not sure how I'm going to concentrate at work Confused

I am! In our area almost all children go to the same high school. DS said he wanted to go to a different school, out of town. Last year 10 children from his school applied and only 4 got in.

DS sat the entrance exam but they don't let you know how they did. He has his heart set on this other school. The rational part of me is saying he will be fine at the either school but I am so hoping he gets his choice.

Good luck and I also hope the email arrives very early.

That sounds difficult, GetThePartyStarted . It's so sad that in this day ad age, well perhaps where I live anyway, the lottery of the high school allocation can really define the lives of our such young children. Fingers crossed for you

I am beyond myself with nerves.

My daughter is Autistic. My first choice school is a good mainstream with Autism unit attached. She really needs this.

No 11 plus or entrance exams for our choice of school but dd is very nervous! Our LA send out emails after 2pm so its going to be a long morning tomorrow.

Good luck to you all, I hope you all get the schools you're hoping for!

How do you find out what time the LA sends out the offer emails?
cautiouscovidity · 28/02/2021 19:54

With our LA you can log in to the portal from about 12:30am. I can't decide if I'll sleep better or worse by knowing Confused.
DD is just outside the likely cut off for a grammar school place I think so it's pretty much a given that she'll get her 3rd, non-selective choice (which is an excellent school but she just doesn't like it).

theneverendinglaundry · 28/02/2021 20:03

@Pusheenlove on their website it says that they will email offers after 2pm. Dds teacher seems to think we wont get anything until about 5pm.

theneverendinglaundry · 28/02/2021 20:29

Actually sorry, they said after 2pm in the confirmation email, not on thei website! Their website just says 'log in to check' so I'll be doing a lot of that tomorrow!!!

PusheenLove · 28/02/2021 20:33

Hmm. Do you think I'll be able to log in at 12.30am? I'm with South Tyneside LA.

GetTheStartyParted · 01/03/2021 07:16

Our email was sent at 00.24. DS got in, he's so pleased. Good luck to everyone else.

SusannahD · 01/03/2021 07:22

Yes nervous here, waiting for the email, they say any time today during working hours.

Macaronirabbit · 01/03/2021 07:24

Weve always had our emails in the afternoon.
We have applied for same school as sibling so would be very surprised if we dont get that.

PusheenLove · 01/03/2021 08:04

No email so far. Friends reckon 8.30am.

SusannahD · 01/03/2021 08:10

email received at 8.00am first choice so pleased.

Lovelydovey · 01/03/2021 08:11

Ours aren’t sent until the evening - there’s nothing in the portal yet....

funtimefrank · 01/03/2021 08:22

Got mine just now except only for one child (have twins). Went on portal and both there.

Literally no surprises here. Offer accepted for both at their first choice but given the availability of schools here that was the only likely outcome

funtimefrank · 01/03/2021 08:25

And just got 2 emails to confirm my acceptances but doesn't have a child's name on so let's hope I've not accepted dd1 twice and Dd2 not at all!

PusheenLove · 01/03/2021 08:49

Got an offer of my first preference. Brill.

But here's a conundrum from my friend: she put two choices on her admissions form. Today she logged in and the screen said "no places available". Is this even possible?

WalkingOverRainbows · 01/03/2021 10:33

Ours aren't sent u till the afternoon. Still checking emails between zoom calls tho! And have the portal open in the background!

Yes. If she didnt get untoneither then she will be put in a school that has places. That's why it is advised to use all options.
WaterBottle123 · 01/03/2021 10:49

Very nervous, portal says emails will be sent this evening.

Loopnnng day

theneverendinglaundry · 01/03/2021 11:15

Yes my friends in another county found out first thing but I'm still waiting.... come on!!!!

GetTheStartyParted · 01/03/2021 11:53

I've had an email from DS's school - its going to cost a fortune! Should have stuck to the local high school Wink

£650 for the bus, £600 for a laptop, £1350 for a ski trip (optional but he missed one this year due to covid), a residential trip that they haven't revealed the price of, the usual uniform and PE kit plus overalls, safety boots and engineering equipment! Quite surprised by how much there is, thank goodness he's our last child and that he was the only one to chose this school!

I really hope you all find out soon. I asked my sister about my nephew and she said she won't find out until Friday, I thought everyone found out today?

DarlingWithoutYou · 01/03/2021 12:27

I feel SICK waiting! I'm in Herts and they emailed last week to say results emails would be sent out in the afternoon. I can't stop checking my emails.

Herts will be around 2/2.30. Or at least was 2 years ago when we were waiting allocation for my eldest.
