Help! PC back up: What to Buy?

Help I am clueless about backing up my PC. I need to sort it and I need a very simple solution, hopefully just something to plug in and automatically back everything up and ideally keep backing it up with minimal intervention. There's not much stuff really just word documents mainly. I have a SanDisk thing currently but I don't really know if I have used it properly and have now forgotten my password and am locked out anyway! Please advise me what I should buy instead and where from! Thank you

I’d back up to the cloud, if you have a Microsoft 365 account then it’s included. If you don’t then set up a gmail account and get that for free. It will backup far more often than you would do manually and be safe from fire etc. You can also access it from anywhere you can find an internet connection.

iCloud also does it.
