Calling coastal dwellers!

My good friend is moving to the coast. I've a decent kitty to get her a nice leaving gift between a few of her close friends.

She's quite active, hoping to start sailing etc. What nice gift could I get her for her new lifestyle? Looking for any bright ideas from those who spend a lot of time on the beach!

Waterproof belt wallet?

rhombuspocahontas · 27/02/2021 13:01

Most things I use are inexpensive on their own so maybe a hamper?

Flask is a must (I like a personal size one rather than anything huge), decent picnic blanket, dock & bay towel. Rucksack/bag depending on her style. Ordinance survey maps of the area.

AndOffFlewMyLastFuck · 27/02/2021 15:49

Just thought of another one, a golfing umbrella. It can act as a wind shield or provide some shade from the sun

haggisandmarsbar · 27/02/2021 15:59

A waterproof camera bag.

OrangeSamphire · 27/02/2021 16:03

A Dry Robe. I use mine almost every day, all year round.

FlibbertyGiblets · 27/02/2021 16:07

yy dryrobe is a very good call.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 27/02/2021 16:19

Dry robes are everywhere where I live as cold water swimming has really taken off during lockdown. Would make for a really useful gift.

A good quality folding beach umbrella ( we have one called a foldabrella and it's brilliant - stays put when everyone else's cheaper versions are flying off down the beach!)

A collapsible insulated picnic basket - we use our one all the time in the summer.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 27/02/2021 16:22

If you've got a big budget an inflatable paddle board could be a good idea.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 27/02/2021 16:37

A decent, sturdy rucksack thats big enough to fit lunch/waterproofs/a warm layer etc in it

Wildlynx · 27/02/2021 17:03

Combination padlock 🔐 with space for car/house keys for when she's in the water? I attach mine to the tow hitch on my car. Not the most exciting present but thoughtful!

Honeywort · 27/02/2021 17:10

Came on to say dry robe as pp have suggested x

Floods123 · 27/02/2021 17:13

Living close to the sea myself, I suggest a book of reasons why she is busy and can't have friends and family to stay for free holidays. She will be inundated and this will be very useful!

GnarlyOldGoatDude · 27/02/2021 17:19

We have a local artist here who does a gorgeous poster with the local tide times on. May well be something similar where she’s going?
Very useful to know when low and high tide are if you’re into watersports or walks here.

Yes! 😂

CornishTiger · 27/02/2021 17:44

Dryrobe or similar.

Wellibobs

Waterproof bag.

Bicnod · 27/02/2021 17:46

Dryrobe or moonwrap definitely - I use mine all the time...

goldpendant · 28/02/2021 14:32

So pleased to see everyone suggest dry robe, that was one of my ideas but didn't know if they were a bit faddish. I've seen the 'red' ones - or are there other good brands? She's quite brand conscious!

OP posts:
KeyboardWorriers · 28/02/2021 14:47

Dry robe definitely!

Stand up paddle board also an excellent suggestion. I love mine.

KeyboardWorriers · 28/02/2021 14:48

@Floods123 Grin

GnarlyOldGoatDude · 28/02/2021 15:07

For a SUP I’d advise she choose it herself; there’s a huge variety and it’s not one size fits all!

I ended up selling my first inflatable one as it was too heavy. You really need to try them out (or have a go on a few friends’ ones) to see what type/ length/ weight etc you prefer.

goldpendant · 28/02/2021 15:18

Don't have the budget for a SUP but def something I think she's planning on taking up so the robe is a great idea.

Which brand should I go for?

Red Paddle?
Dry Robe?
Smoc Smoc?

Any I'm missing?

My sea swimming friend has a gorgeous DryRobe (black with a furry hot pink lining) and adores it. They have real wow factor as a present and are well known (I know that shouldn’t matter, but sometimes it does!)

goldpendant · 01/03/2021 07:37

Thanks @GnarlyOldGoatDude - I think brand def matters, especially for this friend!
