Dry curly hair- help!

So my DD is 2 and used to have beautiful ringlets, now its just a frizzy mess. I have dead straight thick hair whilst she has curly fine hair so I've no idea what I'm doing! we started only co-washing and only brush with conditioner in plus refresh it every morning and tbh its really not doing anything (been a month now). My MIL said its like my SIL hair as a kid and I need to cut it really short and it will thicken up...is this true?! I don't want to cut it all unnecessarily...

What do you brush it with ? I used an Afro comb on my daughters curls.
Funnily enough her hair is poker straight now she’s older.

Cutting it to thicken it is a myth. It’s just the short blunt ends make it seem thicker.
Agree with the Afro comb and don’t overdo the conditioner - it will make it heavy and limp.

I've got 2 with fine curly hair, one more ringlets that the other but it's been much improved recently by using cantu kids shampoo/conditioner and detangle spray. I also only brush when damp so I have a spray bottle of water and use detangle spray too.

What conditioner are you using?

IliveonCoffee · 27/02/2021 09:51

My nice uses cantu kids, and has lovely ringlets going on at the moment (on camera obviously). She's three. I think she uses the spray and curling custard too. It looks like silk and I'm a tad jealous my mother never discovered it when I was a child.

I use the adult stuff following her recommendation which is awesome on my hair. I'm not sure if its just the adult one, but I do find it quite heavy (my hair basically needs a straight jacket so its perfect). It might not be particularly great for fine hair

I love the cantu stuff as well, I’ve never tried the kids versions but I would if I had a little curly one.

Tbh, there’s probably only so much you can do with products and curly girl method tricks, the frizz will likely be appearing while she sleeps. Lots of curly adults have to sleep with bonnets on or on silk pillowcases and even then the frizz is still a never ending battle!

Never brush. Comb when wet. Grow long enough to plait at night which eases the tangles.

Curly hair is a serious bore for those who don't want to faff with appearance. It looks good on those younger, and cute on kids , but later on adds years. There is a reason Megan markle, Nicole Kidman, Chelsea Clinton etc don't look like their earlier photos. She can have straightening when she is older, it now lasts a year and means morning routine is comb and go. Thank goodness for GHDs as I had to miss my annual straightening!

Are you using any products with coconut in it? It mimics protein and my curly hair absolutely hates it, it makes it so dry and coarse.
