DH and I have 2 nights child care booked with the grandparents for later in the year - first time away from the kids except for work in over 12 months. Cannot wait (and neither can my mum!). Where should we go? I am beyond excited at the prospect!

B&B or must it be a hotel?

HugeAckmansWife · 26/02/2021 14:42

If B&B try Broughton house near Cartmel. It's insanely amazing. Run by a lady on her own, you basically have the run of the house. Breakfast is like a banquet and she was more than appy to give us plates etc to eat our lunch in her conservatory that we'd bought from the Deli in Cartmel. Brownies in the room, proper little milk bottles.

WatchWatch · 26/02/2021 14:46

Either really. As long as I do not have to cook, wash up or intubate someone, I'm happy!

The macdonald on windermere

Absolutely gorgeous
Nice resturants and pubs near by

mnahmnah · 26/02/2021 14:51

Inn on the Lake in Glenridding, on the shores of Ullswater

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 26/02/2021 14:54

Have a look at the Aphrodite Hotel, or the Samling. Both are lovely, as is Broadoaks country house. All are perfect for some child free catch up time.

MuthaHubbard · 26/02/2021 14:55

The Cranleigh in Bowness, one of my faves

Onedropbeat · 26/02/2021 14:58

I’ve stayed in the samling and also the Langdale hotel in recent years and would recommend both

I preferred the langdale but only because there were more facilities

The samling had amazing views and felt very private

We go every year but as we go with children or friends get a cottage

We tend to book one of the cottages at the sunny brow farm retreat

Onedropbeat · 26/02/2021 15:00

I’ve also stayed at broadoaks country house but after their treatment of us and other guests we were travelling with after they gave us food poisoning I couldn’t recommend them

NameChange1666 · 26/02/2021 15:02

I love low wood bay between Windermere and Bowness. Has a lovely spa as well

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 26/02/2021 15:04

@onedropbeat that's dreadful!
Knock that off my recommendation list please then OP.

WhatAreWordsWorth · 26/02/2021 15:05

Following as we’re hoping for a nice break in the Lakes later this year!

WatchWatch · 26/02/2021 15:06

Oh yes. These are sounding perfect! I'll take a look at them all tonight.

A lot will depend on if they have availability on the dates I've got.

Don't get me wrong, I love a holiday with the kids but I've not had so much as a walk alone with DH since January 2020.

I’m totally with you on that

I’m quite jealous of a nice break with just DH at somewhere in a hotel kid free Grin

Walking at full speed!

Happylan · 26/02/2021 15:24

The Grand at Grasmere. You won't be disappointed

WatchWatch · 27/02/2021 09:20

These suggestions are all brilliant! Struggling to decide. We've now booked a second weekend with DHs parents so we'll get to go to 2 of them.

The grandparents are really looking forward to it, as is DC1 (DC2 is too young to understand really).

We had a terrible experience at this hotel. Room was unclean, no hot water, bad customer service.
littlebillie · 27/02/2021 10:02

The Gilpin

jackieweaverforpm · 27/02/2021 10:10

The Holbeck Ghyll is lovely.

GuyFawkesDay · 27/02/2021 10:12

The Gilpin
The Drunken Duck Inn
The Wild Boar at Crook was fab last time I stayed but that was 8yrs ago since I last sent.

That's awful and such shame.

WatchWatch · 27/02/2021 10:22

We stayed at the Gilpin previously in one of the rooms with the private hot tub in the garden. It was lovely and the service exceptional. I'm tempted to go back but similarly want to try something else!

And we stayed at Apartment 95 in Kirkby Lonsdale one time for a week and ate at the wild boar, it was lovely. Throughly recommend apart 95 as well for a couples break. The owner couldn't do more for us.

A lot of these places even if you decide not to stay there definitely try and eat at some of them

The drunken duck is a favourite of ours to eat at

Capital76 · 27/02/2021 17:57

@janlevinson aw thats a shame Sad
