Anyone else finding it hard starting a new job in lockdown?

I started a new job just before Christmas and it's a really goodcompany and people are really great (albeit over Zoom) but I'm just finding it hard to keep motivated. I do all my work and do it well and everyone seems happy with with what I'm doing, but I don't feel like I have enough to do and feeling very challenged. Realistically I know that this will change when I get back in the office but that's not at least until September. Anyone else feeling the same?

Not a new job but I stopped working in June to start a full-time PhD in July. It’s what I’ve been working toward for the past six years and I should be clicking my heels with excitement but I feel so disconnected from everything and my motivation to work is in the toilet. My supervisor is really happy with my work but I’m too embarrassed to admit that I procrastinate for a fortnight and then make a herculean effort to write in the days leading up to our next progress meeting. It’s exhausting but I can’t seem to force myself to focus on anything meaningful.

Yes, I feel exactly the same. I really wanted this job and now have zero enthusiasm even though all going well.

Can you put yourself forward for more work?

I started a brand new job in April last year. No WFH, working from site every day, boss was shielding so no real induction- it was literally, welcome aboard, heres your chair and computer, now get on with your job! Fortunately I had brilliant colleagues who showed me the ropes, and I found my feet pretty quickly.

I do ask for more work but I don’t think there is much at the moment. I’m sure things will change when we’re back in the office but that’s not until at least September which feels a long way off.
