WhatsApp on iPad with sim card?

hello - I can't quite get my head around this. We want to buy an iPad with cellular for an elderly relative, with a data sim card so she can access the internet (she won't have wifi). Can she use WhatsApp on this, or does she need to have a phone too?

Oh actually ignore me. There used to be an iPad/iPod WhatsApp app but it seems like it no longer exists!

She can only use WhatsApp on her iPad from: web.whatsapp.com

You need a phone number to use WhatsApp

She needs to have a phone that supports WhatsApp yes.

Basically you scan a WhatsApp web QR code on the iPad, from the WhatsApp app on the phone. It basically gives you authorisation to access your WhatsApp account on an iPad.

Apparently they’re developing an iPad app🤷🏼‍♀️

Alternatively just use iMessage? Many people prefer it over WhatsApp anyway. Or use social media to contact android users
