Amitriptyline or diazepam?

I've got a trapped nerve which is causing me issues down my arm. It's stopping me sleeping at night and the doctor has prescribed amitriptyline. I do also have some diazepam left over from a previous back injury some time ago

What would you say is the best to take to enable me to get a good night sleep? The dr helpfully said it was up to me

from experience amitriptyline worked well for my trapped nerve, don't over do the dose or you will be a zombie the next day.

@Wannabegreenfingers yeah this is my concern! I don't take painkillers at all really and when I do, it's ibruprofen or paracetamol.

But the above don't touch the annoying pain at all and it prevents proper sleep. I'm nervous about taking drugs I'm not familiar with too!

Amitriptyline is fine, take it around 8pm, no later, and you'll be fine next day, it will take a few days getting used to though, I was a bit zombified first 2 days on it (both days about an hour after taking it needed to go to bed and then a space cadet the next day) but it improved massively from there

amitriptyline is used for nerve pain and sleep , diazepam will sedate and is more to relax muscles/spasm etc.
give the amitriptyline a go, give it at least 2 weeks to decide if its helping, it's been a good help to me.

@lubeybooby thank you. I'll take a very small dose tonight then. I really don't want to be a zombie the next day! I also don't anticipate taking it for long .. I've already seen a physio and am doing so again next week ... just waiting for the nerve to bloody well un-trap itself!

@happyjack12 see I think I want to be sedated 😀 I don't know!

My arm isn't even agonising really. It just tingles and the pain moves about a bit and prevents me sleeping
