And I was so nervous my mind went blank a few times and I waffled through a few answers.

Of course now its over and I'm sat down with a cuppa all the words and articulate responses are coming back to me 😔

Oh well better luck next time I guess

At my last job interview one of the answers I gave to a question was “um.....er.......I just can’t think of an example at the minute. Sorry” 🤣 I went home and ran it over and over in my head feeling like an idiot.
I’ve now been there 6 years!
Good luck op.

Dont fret. I think they expect nerves! Hopefully they got a good glimpse of your personality in between the nerves though.
In the past, when I've had nerves during interview I've just gone ahead and said so. For my uni interview I really thought I had fucked up and was extremely surprised when I found out I had the place.
Because I was so nervous I had to ask them if they could repeat questions, ask them to rephrase what they were saying etc and then I said I need to think about what they were asking me. I think possibly that might have gone in my favour because, in hindsight, it showed that I was making considered and rational thought process rather than blurting out what they might have wanted to hear (if that makes sense).
Congrats on the interview, even if you dont get the job, it is all practice for next time. Smile fingers crossed though.

Ps..if you dont get the role, I've always held the belief that it's the hand of fate, and that is not the correct path.

WhatAreWordsWorth · 25/02/2021 15:28

Completely normal. That has happened to me loads of times! Don’t give it another thought, honestly.

If you get it, great. If not, it was valuable interview practice and you can prepare a response in case you’re asked the same questions again in the future Smile

HelloCanYouHearMe · 25/02/2021 15:29

Thank you for the positive vibes!!!

I was made redundant last summer from a job I loved and the interview was basically for that same role just somewhere else. I know I could bring so much to it and do it with my eyes closed - I just feel like I didnt convey that so well.

I'll treat myself to a glass of wine tonight I think Smile

I'm the same in interviews. Will practice my examples, make notes etc... But it just goes out of head in the interview. I think my problem is it's like I'm trying to memorise a script and if I can't get it out word perfect or if the question doesn't quite fit my script I panic.

purpledagger · 26/02/2021 00:09

Write down the questions they asked you. I found that interviewers ask you the same types of questions, it can help you prepare for future interviews.

Take some time to come up with some examples you can use. I used to keep a document on my work pc which I would periodically update. Practice them in the STAR method.

Interviewers will often questions about soft skills. Some key ones are communication, team working, difficult situations, prioritising work load etc. Think about what they mean to you and how you put them into practice.

Good luck for the future.

Oh OP I had an interview on Thursday for a company I've always wanted to work for. I was talking such nonsense throughout and in my head I could hear myself say "stop talking" because I was waffling!! But I've taken it to be at least good practice for when I have my next interview :)

HelloCanYouHearMe · 26/02/2021 14:13

I've just had a call to say I got the job!!!!!

Can't quite believe it to be honest, I really thought i'd messed up

I went for an in-house promotion at work in a school as did not at any point in the 45 minute interview say anything about safeguarding, despite being asked twice! Kicked myself for 3 days afterwards but I still got the promotion. We all waffle, forget things. Fingers crossed it’s good news

IEat · 26/02/2021 15:26

Just seen it Was good news. Well done

Gossipgirl2 · 26/02/2021 15:29
