My ear is driving me insane!

I’ve had tinnitus in my left ear for years, learned to live with it and it only really bothers me when I’m tired/stressed.

I had a cold a few weeks ago that’s left me with awful catarrh, I can feel it running down the back of my throat at night and it seems to be exacerbating my tinnitus.
My ear feels on the verge of exploding, it’s like a balloon is being blown up inside and it’s affecting my hearing too, the sound is ultra high pitched and like a bell/buzzer. Not painful but feels uncomfortably ‘full’.
It’s a horrid sensation and I don’t know what to try to relieve it?

Decongestant like sudafed?

Sounds awful OP, get well soon.

I’d be seeing a GP to check for infection.

I have also had left-ear only tinnitus for about 25 years and it is exacerbated by ear infections and colds. After a bad flu I was left with a post-nasal drip - mucous dripping from the nose down your throat - and it needed antibiotics to clear it up.

I’d contact your GP or at the very least go to the pharmacy and ask them if they can give you anything, but it honestly sounds like you need to see the GP.

I’ll call into the pharmacy on my way home from DD’s - currently looking after my Grandson.

I’d see the gp too. The pharmacist will suggest a nasal spray first which is worth trying.
