Nightmares

Not sure where to put this one.

I have experienced graphic nightmares for over a week now, like proper scary stuff involving sleep paralysis.

I know why I am having them, I lost my mum six weeks ago and my dreams always involve loosing my husband/daughter/dad in graphic ways and no matter what I do I can't help.

I have spoken to a Counseller about them but he said because I know why I'm having them he can't help too much on how to stop them.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

Thanks

Thank you, I've tried reading a book, lavender lotion, listening to relaxing music etc still woke at 2am from a horrible graphic nightmare.

Sorry for the loss of your mum.
I’ve recently heard of something called lucid dreaming (let’s be honest, I read it on here somewhere). Apparently this is a technique you can learn to redirect your dreams.

Personally I’ve never managed to stop having nightmares, just grew out of them, but learned to concentrate on recovery and calming so I could go back to sleep. Do make sure you’ve been for a wee before bed.

Have you had any bereavement counselling? Although it’s only been 6 weeks, I don’t know how soon you can go. It might be worth contacting Cruse?
