Dad in hospital and they have asked us to come in - worried

My dad was taken into hospital on Monday by ambulance, the preliminary diagnosis is a clot on the lung and he has been on oxygen since he arrived as he is having difficulty breathing. No issues with covid, tests negative.

I spoke to him this morning and whilst his breathing was bad and it was hard to understand him, he seemed upbeat. My brother has just called however to say the hospital called and asked us to visit him, suggesting we can stay overnight. I'm full of the cold so can't go, my brother is going now and I'm anxiously waiting for news.

I'ts not looking good is it? Someone please tell me a positive outcome? This has come out of the blue and I'm trying to stay positive in front of the kids, are visits allowed for reasons other than the worst imaginable outcome?

Flowers It must be hard not to worry given the circumstances.
OverTheRainbow88 · 24/02/2021 19:47

I would go and see him, as you wouldn’t want to regret not. Hoping he’s ok.

VestaRose · 24/02/2021 19:49

I'm just scared incase I make him worse by going in if he can recover. I am making arrangements for the kids now.

bookish83 · 24/02/2021 19:58

Please go, ask to wear mask, full gown, gloves and face visor. You would regret it otherwise I think.
Hope your dad recovers xxx

RiderGirl · 24/02/2021 19:58

Definitely go Flowers

Mydarlingsleepthief · 24/02/2021 19:59

Seriously, you need to go

BirdHedge · 24/02/2021 20:00

Very sorry to hear that.
I would phone up the ward and ask what they want you to do with tour current symptoms. They may want you to do a lateral flow test to show you haven’t got covid even with mild cold symptoms, or give you extra PPE

percheron67 · 24/02/2021 20:00

How horrid for you. I think I would go but make sure I had cleansed hands, mask etc.

LIZS · 24/02/2021 20:01

See what they tell your dbro but be prepared to take cold remedy, mask up and go.

Greybeardy · 24/02/2021 20:09

Please don’t just go if there’s any chance you have covid. I’d either wait to see what your brother says (and get him to ask specifically about you visiting with your symptoms), or phone the ward and speak to the nurse in charge. It’s utterly miserable that people can’t visit freely at the moment but the implications on a wider level of going in with covid (possibly to a non-covid ward) are huge (even ‘full’ PPE isn’t perfect because the masks have to be fitted properly). Really hope it turns out to be better news than your expecting.

VestaRose · 24/02/2021 20:13

I'm just waiting to hear from my db, but it's definitely a cold that I have, no covid symptoms. I've taken my temperature etc.

Go. They'll likely give you a shield to wear over your mask anyway. I hope everything's okay.
