I LOVE the ‘Fortunately’ podcast but I’m up to date with it. I’ve tried ‘Shagged, married, annoyed’ which was ok, same with ‘ Off Menu’. Has anyone got recommendations for other podcasts? My dc are teenagers so I don’t want any mum ones (although I’m sure I would have enjoyed the scummy mummy when my dc were little).

So what is good out there in the land of podcasts?

Second Older and Wider with Jenny , very funny. Otherwise watching with interest.

KittyFilter · 24/02/2021 17:37

I like Jenny Eclair so will have a listen to that. Am always on the lookout for new podcasts too.

I moved from podcasts to audiobooks and got so engrossed in the Hunger Games trilogy that I’m now totally bereft that I no longer have Catniss and Peter in my life 🙁

So that’s my advice. Find a fabulous audiobook and lose yourself whilst doing menial tasks.

What are you interested in?

Books, films, history, science, food, nature, art, comedy, Sci-fi, politics, drama, sport, interviews, storytelling (real stories or fiction), quizzes?

There are literally thousands of great podcasts out there so it's hard to know what to recommend without knowing what you like.

"podcast radio hour" is a good podcast from the bbc for discovering new podcasts. Each episode discuses podcasts on a different theme.

Thirtyrock39 · 24/02/2021 18:53

I love 'you're wrong about' it's two very funny clever Americans debunking famous events and cases such as oj Simpson, columbine , dingo baby and pop culture wronged celebs such as Jessica simpson, princess di...it was recommended on the high low which was also brilliant but has now ended but you can listen to old episodes of it

Luxy · 24/02/2021 18:54

My favourites at the moment are

Not without my sister... two Irish sisters living in the US, just chatting about all sorts, very funny and easy listening.

Morbid ..true crime by two American women, aunt and niece I think, pretty brutal in places, but they themselves are entertaining.

Unexplained podacst..true life mysteries, some weird stories quite a few I'd never heard of even though I've been a fan of paranormal/mystery type stories since a teenager.

If OP likes Jane & Fi she probably likes light good humour and womanly home truths.

Renegades: Obama chats with Springsteen just got launched. It's not womanly or especially light humour, mind. First episode has talk about how to be a better man or husband, finding commonalities with people who might seem different, fathers, being outsiders, race issues, shy people who tell the whole world about their inner demons. Pretty thoughtful stuff (as you would expect from them both).

cariadlet · 24/02/2021 19:24

Ok, going with the light humour and womanly chat.

A podcast of one's own - Julia Gillard talking to successful women.

Adrift - Geoff Lloyd and Annabelle Port with a chat show for the socially awkward

By the book - 2 women who try lining by the tiles of a different self - help book each week and then talk about how their week went.

Dear Joan and Jericha - very funny and very rude podcast with 2 extremely unhelpful agony aunts

Eye of the Storm - Emma Barnett talking to people who have been caught up in the news. No episodes for ages but old ones are still available.

Griefcast - Cariad Lloyd talking to someone who has lost a loved one. Much cheerier than it sounds.

The Moth - ordinary people telling stories from their lives, some laugh out loud funny, some incredibly moving.

Tom Neenan is not all Men - comedy, the fictional podcast host thinks he's a great ally to women but he's awful.

Unladylike - feminist chat

You're wrong about - recommended by a pp, the hosts are very good on the way women are misrepresented by the media.

cariadlet · 24/02/2021 19:26

Ignore the typos in the "by the book" paragraph. Autocorrect has changed it but God knows what I was trying to write.

MrsJackRackham · 24/02/2021 19:34

This Podcast Will Kill You. Two female epidemiologists going in-depth into a different disease every fortnight. How it spreads, symptoms etc and also the history of the disease throughout the world. It's fab.

Love Something Rhymes with Purple, Kitty!

It's Suzie Dent off Countdown and Giles Brandreth talking about words and language. They're so nice to listen to and it's often genuinely hilarious.

I love This Podcast Will Kill You too, on the face of it, it doesn't sound that engrossing, but the presenters are funny and engaging and really know their stuff. I've learnt loads from listening to it.

AdaFuckingShelby · 24/02/2021 20:37

Another vote for Louis Theroux Grounded. I really enjoyed them, hope he does more.
