Do you want just cheap or good customer service too? I'm with Octopus and they have been good

Cheap or good value?

A lot of 'cheap' companies go to the wall and end up being bought by an existing supplier (most recently EDF and British Gas ended up with another companies customers).

Then there are good value suppliers who charge a reasonable rate and you can actually have a customer/company relationship they answer the phone

Plus there's regional pricing on electricity...so really you want to use a comparison site based on your actual usage once you have an idea which companies you're happy to do business with.

I was with Yorkshire Energy who went bust last October and got taken over by Scottish Power - they are one of the best tariffs for my usage but their customer service is CRAP. YE had great customer service. As soon as the changeover bills are sorted I will be heading to Octopus as have only heard good things about them. (Although the same could have been said of YE Sad)

If you go for Octopus try and get a referral code as it gets both of you £50 off your bill

murbblurb · 24/02/2021 16:32

depends where you live and if you are dual fuel. I'm seeing the inevitable tendency for all my comparison quotes to come out the same, so there isn't as much choice as they would have you believe.

agree - stay away from the tiny ones, they sell too cheap so go bust and that wastes a lot of money as Ofgem have to step in.

Thanks all. I was leaning towards octopus and a few of you have mentioned them so I think I will go with it.

Most energy companies prices are going up at the moment so it's a good idea to do a comparison to see if you can save. If you choose Octopus or Bulb, find a referral link and you'll get an extra reward as well.

This referral link for Bulb will give you up to £75
