I've been using a mooncup for years but struggling with increased cramping pain and pressure on my bladder when using it

Did the quiz on 'put a cup in it' and they recommended the saalt soft.
It's a lot more soft and flexible than the mooncup but I'm still having the same issues with pain and pressure.
According to the comparison chart the dimensions are the same as the mooncup.

Do I need a different cup or a different size?
I'm sure I'm putting it in correctly because it's unfolding, doesn't move and doesn't leak.
I'm late 30s with and have a child so I've always got the larger size.

Any suggestions?

Could something have changed internally? Maybe a prolapse or something?

FWIW I had that kind of feeling using tampons but don’t get it with the Saalt cup

Maybe try one with out a rim? A fun cup or the lily?

Definitely not a prolapse as I had an internal last month. I've got some redness on my cervix apparently but otherwise everything is good.

I'll have a look at those. Are they really soft as well? The hard stick on the mooncup was a nightmare even though I cut it short.

You need one with a narrower diameter. I have the same problem and tend to have to buy the before childbirth sizes. That's not a brag, it's nothing to do with vaginal tightness, just physical size.

Softness won't matter and might make things worse or cause leaks.

BertieBotts · 24/02/2021 10:53

You can also go shorter safely although that will reduce the capacity.

The lily is really soft. Tbh I couldn't get it to open as a result but despite the size ( it does look quite frightening ) u really can't feel it. You might have more luck, everyone's different. I have a saalt cup and it works for me, but I did have slight issue with a Ruby cup, I think the rim.was causing a little bit of pressure. A slight change of shape with the saalt seem to fix it.

Personally, I would look a different size if you are feeling pressure.

There is a fantastic FB group called "Saalt cup academy" which I have found very helpful.

I think I'll try a small saalt and if it doesn't work I'll try the lily.

The problem if you go too soft is that it will just collapse because your vaginal wall is quite strong.

Generally you would go for a soft one if you have problems with muscle tone or some kind of medical issue such as a prolapse. Or sometimes younger women/girls benefit from a softer cup (although size is more likely to be the issue there as well).

Then firmer cups are recommended if somebody has a very strong pelvic floor due to pelvic floor training or being an athlete or very physically fit - they can also be useful if you play sports since during sport you may tense your pelvic floor which can cause a cup to leak if it's too soft.

If you can feel it or it's putting pressure on your bladder/urethra, the problem is that it's too big.

I have a tilted uterus/cervix - not sure whether that affects the size needed? But I always come out as too big on online calculators. IRL the cups I find comfortable are smaller than what is suggested.

I'm having a nightmare with the saalt soft not opening so I'm going to try yet another.
