What resale value would you anticipate on wedding jewellery?

If you purchased a wedding band and engagement ring a few years ago from a high street jeweller and spent £1000. What percentage would you anticipate if you then sold the jewellery on?

Sadly not a lot, most likely scrap value? Whats the size of the stone carat of gold?

Howshouldibehave · 23/02/2021 22:13

Very little. What size is the diamond/stone?

£150?

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/02/2021 22:16

18k white gold for one ring. 9k white gold for the other. No idea about the quality of diamond.

I’m the one purchasing and I’m trying to work out what’s reasonable.

If they were selling to pawnbroker etc rings were 3gs each then £75 for 18k £35 for other in terms of gold, the stones can be irrelevant apparently, my sibling works in jewellery so asked them!

MichelleScarn · 23/02/2021 22:20

Have they shown you pictures of proper hall marks?

The size of the diamond would affect price as much as the quality.

Get a valuation at a jeweller and go from there, or look at sold prices for similar stuff on eBay.

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/02/2021 22:23

I’ve seen receipts. Not hallmarks no 😬

The person who sells the jewellery on with get very little and the one buying will pay more than they received.

MichelleScarn · 23/02/2021 22:27

Good logic from fuzzy ask for photos of the hallmarks!

When my marriage ended, and need to raise funds quickly, I sold my wedding ring and engagement ring. I live in a small town, and in the three jewellers I approach I got vastly different offers. My advice is get lots of quotes before you decide to sell.

Elouera · 23/02/2021 22:32

Are you wearing them together? They clearly aren't a match if different percentage of gold! If you wore them together, the stronger, 18K gold will wear away at the 9K! Also, the gold will look different colours. I agree that is depends on the size and quality of the stones will depend on the price?

If it was £1000 several years ago, I'd assume it to be at least half that now, maybe 1/4 if a pawn shop.

justanotherneighinparadise · 24/02/2021 10:29

I’ve decided not to go for it. Thank you all for your advice x

You're welcome! How much were you planning to pay? Would you still consider pre owned?
