Artificial grass (with dogs)

Our lawn is ruined, everything I read says dogs can’t dig up artificial grass. I know you have to keep it clean etc to avoid smelling but can anyone who has it (professionally installed) confirm that dogs can’t dig it up!?

I have a patterdale terrier who loves to dig and can confirm my artificial grass has survived him 😂

Are you aware of how hot many artificial grasses can get?

maz82 · 23/02/2021 17:30

I have a staffy and a border collie and they haven't dug any of it up. It does hold smell though so I buy artificial grass cleaner off amazon and it comes up lovely.

Apparently it’s no hotter than patio so would wear flip flops anyway and there are nice shaded areas for dogs.
All the reviews from dog owners I read are positive but it is so expensive I just don’t want to regret it!

Ours is great. Doesn't smell and is definitely dog proof!

We have a dog and artificial grass and no problems.

I've seen dogs dig through walls...

Our dog is a bit if a digger but no issues with our artificial grass - four years on and it still looks fab

StillMedusa · 24/02/2021 01:13

We removed ours. We had the best quality stuff and it looked great..but if you check the stats it gets WAY WAY hotter than real grass... and when we had that heat wave 2 years ago... you couldn't walk on it. AND the dog refused to pee on it. (which kept the smell down to be fair.. my friend also has artificial and hers stinks from dog pee)

I'd test your dog on someones first.. ours flatly refused to pee and would hold out til we took her for a walk on real grass!!!

Oh and yes she could dig it up.. she started at the edges!!!! *disclaimer.. my dog IS an arse Grin We now have a semi dead lawn...

Sorry Hairybaker ! Just thought you should know it isn't always a better option. Honestly I loved mine.. we have a south facing garden so always struggled to keep grass nice in the summer..so replaced it with artificial. Looked fab for a couple of years. Then got the dog. dog said 'this is not grass..I do not pee on it. However I will scuff it up until finally an edge gives way'
It was how hot it got that was the worse thing though..might be fine in a shady garden but ours was roasting!
