Can I insist on a bridge?

I have 2 teeth missing that are visible when I smile. I had them removed at an emergency dentist who said I could have a bridge fitted later on. After 3 years on the waiting list for an NHS dentist, I asked about a bridge but was told my jaw bone has receded from smoking (I was a social smoker in my 20s) and my teeth may not be strong enough to hold it. I understand his argument but I still want one! I have a denture now and I hate it. I spit when I talk, it's uncomfortable, I forget to wear it and it's made me avoid dating as I'm worried it would be noticeable when kissing. Can I insist on a bridge? I'd be happy to stick to soft food if it meant not feeling ashamed about my teeth.

See a different dentist. If they say the same you need to face facts

But surely its my decision? The dentists can advise against it but don't I have the last say?

I had a tooth removed either side and was given plate. I told the dentist I only left the house when I had too and it really effected my mental health. I had the bridges fitted

An ethical dentist would not carry out a treatment which could further damage your teeth. It may be that placing a bridge could lead to the loss of the teeth used to support the bridge if the bone is poor.

See a different dentist...the NHS dentist who had to take my three out said I'd need implants (he did them privately no way do I have that money!) and gave me a plate while everything settled. Changed dentist and they did a nice one covering a three hole gap. I was a smoker years ago. With good hygiene you can restore some health. Hoping to give you hope !
