Is it too early to have hay fever symptoms?

I usually get fairly mild hay fever but last year I had really bad symptoms. I had to get stronger antihistamines from the GP and I just wanted to scratch my eyes put all day.

For the last week or so I have started getting really itchy eyes again. Just been for a walk in some woods and it has got much, much worse since I got back. Could it be hay fever this early?

I don't have any other allergies, my eyes aren't red, crusty or bloodshot so I don't think it can be an infection. They look completely normal but yet again I just want to rub and scratch them all day!

No. I went for a walk on Sunday and was sneezing like mad.

Thecazelets · 23/02/2021 14:44

Same. I've just re-started my antihistamines. Tree pollen is a thing from Jan/Feb onwards with me.

Nope. Fucking trees.

I’m the same OP. I had a google and it looks like because we had a week of warmer weather it’s caused a “pollen bomb” of tree pollen.

tree pollen is one of the earliest

KasparKat · 23/02/2021 14:49

Oh wow, thanks everyone. That's reassuring as I was trying to figure out what on earth it could be! Can't believe I'm breaking out the antihistamines so soon!

DH has been getting severe allergy in February from tree pollen for as long as I have known him (30 yrs) and every single year it takes him by surprise and seems "too early "Grin

Ha! I noticed that on the Zoe symptom app for covid one of the symptoms is something like "increase in hay-fever or allergy symptoms".

Interesting as I think I had covid last March and it was after this that my hay fever went crazy.

Definitely seems early this year (mine is tree pollen too). Normally starts for me round the first week in March but been getting symptoms and on the beconase for about 10 days now!

Funnily enough my brother asked me on Sunday if my hay fever had started ( he suffers too) and I realised my itchy eyes and nose and sneezing was my hay fever. Yep, started as soon as weather went a little warm! I am late 40s and it really does take me by surprise every year!
