Did anyone else book in 2020 for a holiday this May?

Our 2020 holiday went tits-up. It was last January and we got stuck in a covid hot-spot before anyone realised what was going on. We ended up stranded, plans in tatters, holiday cancelled, but managed to get home.

After the first lockdown, we booked for May this year thinking it would all be over by then. Now it's pretty obvious we won't be going anywhere. Buggering bollocks.

I'm so pissed off.

You might be. What date is it booked for? Travel might begin from 17th but the decision will be a week before that on 10th.

May 10th. I've been clinging on to the hope of a holiday for over a year! We downsized recently and the whole experience was hell! Our buyers were utter bastards. Now it looks like I'll be a week the wrong side of any potential travel ban lifting. Arrrrggghhh!

Oh ok then yes, probably it happening. Unless of course the vaccine roll out speeds up and numbers drop faster than expected I suppose - ever the optimist Smile. No chance of the holiday company being flexible on moving it back?

Mrsbrand2019 · 23/02/2021 14:59

We booked for last may and changed it to this may the 15th and just received an email from jet2 that they have cancelled it with full refund within 28 days.
No option to move this time it’s just been cancelled
Gutted.

LauraAshleySofa · 23/02/2021 15:04

We booked in 2019
Got postponed in 2020
Fingers crossed for 2021
I have never waited so long for a holiday.

Yep. Had Haven in Devon booked for last May, rebooked for the 8th May this year thinking it would be over. Don’t know what yesterday’s announcement means for it, haven’t heard from Haven yet.

Perihell · 23/02/2021 19:08

All the talk of should you book a holiday, what if last years was cancelled and you only had the option to rollover to this year ?

DeeplyMovingExperience · 23/02/2021 19:57

I am totally with you on the gutted comment @Mrsbrand2019

Even if we get a refund, I don't want a sodding refund. I want to go on holiday! Then as soon as the ban is lifted you won't be able to book a holiday for love nor money, and any availability will be priced through the roof no doubt.

Maybe I can post myself abroad with DHL and just put some air holes in the box and pack a couple of sandwiches.

Yes! We booked the same place at the same time (last week in May) last April when it because obvious our 2020 holiday wasn’t going to happen. So pleased it looks like we’ll be able to go this time and shops and restaurants will be open. We’re going away on the UK so no worries about flights or quarantine though, luckily.

SilverGlassHare · 23/02/2021 20:09

Sorry, I didn’t mean to gloat. I didn’t rtft!

DallyCrazy · 23/02/2021 20:10

Yes we booked in 2019 for May 2020 obviously that didn't happen so it was moved to May 2021. Which looks unlikely now. I'm not cancelling it though or I'll lose all my money, I'll wait for them to cancel it or move it again.

Me too opening poster. I was supposed to fly on 9/5. Postponed from last year. Fortunately, the small family company I travel with have already promised that I can either have a refund or travel later in the year.

I was a bit down yesterday I was so looking forward to going in May, my favourite time of the year in Greece, but t looks like it probably won't be happening.

Hah well. That's the way it goes, I guess

blackheartsgirl · 24/02/2021 15:11

Yes supposed to be going to butlins may 20th

Gawd only knows whats happening

BellsaRinging · 24/02/2021 15:15

Yup. Meant to going to Spain at the end of May Confused

TonTonMacoute · 24/02/2021 17:08

We were hoping to go France in May (booked in 2019 and already postponed twice), but I just can't see it happening and have now asked for our money back.

Amazingly we did get our summer holiday in France last July - we had booked in January and arrived on the exact day that quarantine restrictions were lifted. Sheer luck!

It looks like this year is going to be worse than last year in terms of restrictions, in spite of the vaccine Sad

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 24/02/2021 17:17

I changed my September holiday to May and today I phoned up and got my money back. Maybe it’s just not meant to be.

Nearlyhadenough · 24/02/2021 17:31

Me too.... postponed form last year until 1st May 2021.

Know i won't be going but not sure if I'll be wanting to pay the extra for a future date! Just have to wait and see x

confusedofengland · 24/02/2021 17:36

We booked Mallorca for last April, as we always try to go in the Easter holidays. That was obviously cancelled, so we rebooked for this April. That has also been cancelled. Fortunately, we will get refunds as it is not our fault, but I'm reluctant to book again. We probably will though.

We have also booked a Eurocamp holiday in France for October, which I am hopeful will go ahead.
