Will the world ever be back to normal?
Thoughts?

Define “normal” and “the world”.

Even without covid, life in March 2021 wouldn’t look like life in March 2020 - stuff happens. Normal isn’t a static thing. Some aspects of it aren’t even desirable. I think life will return to feeling sustainable and similar to how it was before, in the U.K, for most people. I think it will feel broadly normal, as opposed to some sort of long drawn out state of emergency. I think all the fuss about masks forever etc will die down as the media stops reporting on it, people get bored and life moves on. People take much bigger risks with their health all the time - obesity for example, or smoking. I don’t expect to still be thinking or talking about covid by 2023 except possibly once a year to take elderly relatives for their booster shots. Probably 2022.

Life clearly won’t look exactly the same though, especially on an individual level - if you’ve lost your job or your business for example. If you’ve been bereaved or left disabled then life isn’t going back to how it was - 2019 normal is gone forever. Some people will have been traumatised in all sorts of ways. Some people will have found new opportunities.

Globally, who knows. But I can’t help wondering if Covid is actually the biggest problem, or even the biggest public health problem, in some parts of the world anyway.
