Miscarried 6-7 weeks ago, need a bit of help.

So I miscarried 6-7 weeks ago and for a week now I’ve been spotting brown & it’s mixed with a lot of discharge. I’m also experiencing extreme nausea. My guess is, is that my hormone levels are still levelling themselves out but there’s still a chance I could be pregnant again. I don’t feel like I am. Also, took a pregnancy test a week ago and it’s still positive, going to take one tomorrow to see if anything’s changed. I’ve phoned doctors and they’ve not been very helpful. Also, no period yet.
Btw, this is my first pregnancy and miscarriage, so I’m really confused about everything.
I’ve looked everywhere and things are telling me it can take ‘4-6 weeks to get your period’ others say ‘9 weeks’. I’m just all over the place and really confused as to what I can do.

Can you get a ref to a EPU? I never had a period in between miscarrying at 8 weeks and getting pregnant with my DD (now 8). Similar timeframe to you, miscarriage end of jan and got a positive test around mid March. GP referred me for urgent scan and there she was. Good luck.

So just to clarify.... you completely miscarried and they did a scan etc to confirm? Have you bled in between? Did you miscarry naturally?

Thank you for replying, I’ve got myself in a right pickle about this whole thing, I keep reading up on bits and everything telling me different things. I’ve come out positive again today, it’s only a faint line. Also, got a blood test on Thursday to see how my hormone levels are.

And yes, I completed the miscarriage within a week, it was all natural and I didn’t expect to miscarry. I had a scan a few days after I stopped bleeding and they saw nothing. Also had a look on the inside (they inserted something in, with what I’m guessing is a camera of some sort, I didn’t want to see so I didn’t get a look at what they saw). I haven’t been bleeding since I miscarried but I have had brown/pink blood mixed with discharge whenever I wiped. Thank you for replying.

Ok. So iam a little confused. Why are they sending you for a blood test for your hormonal level if your miscarriage was complete?
Just trying to understand so I can get a better answer.
In my experience of miscarriages, I've had several, they internally scan you ( which is what you described) and if they find nothing then your miscarriage is complete then they do nothing further.
If they are sending you for further blood test, it makes me think that your miscarriage is actually not complete. Which is why they are keeping an eye on your hormone levels.
In this case, you will most likely still test positive when you do a test. Unfortunately this is still a miscarriage.
If I have not understood correctly and it definitely was a complete miscarriage, and you are testing positive then you may be pregnant. I'd wait a week or 2 and test again.

The nausea you experience, I get that sometimes for a while after a miscarriage and I remember wondering whether it meant something too or not. It would eventually go away though. Sorry if this is not what you want to hear.
Been through this and my heart goes out to you. Very emotional and heart breaking time, hope you all the best for your future and hope you get your rainbow baby Flowers

Ps also I hope I am wrong

NoMoreMuchin · 23/02/2021 12:02

I'm sorry about your miscarriage.

I'm assuming because you don't mention it that you didn't take a pregnancy test after the miscarriage completed and get a negative test? It would have been helpful if this had been suggested to you at your scan, as then you could be sure a future positive was a new pregnancy. I feel you were a bit let down if they didn't suggest it to you, because it's not the sort of thing that you would think to do yourself afterwards, but being in this situation of not knowing if you have a new pregnancy or not is unfortunately quite common.

If they do two blood tests 48 hours apart and see if the HCG is rising this should help make the situation clearer.

I have both had nausea as a symptom after miscarriage and not been pregnant, and got pregnant 8 days after a miscarriage, so it's really tricky to know what is going on. It's a shit time Flowers

I'm really sorry for your loss. It's such a scary and upsetting time, especially when you don't know what's going on. Call your local EPU; mine have been generally helpful, though have needed some prodding on occasion.

Wishing you well soon.

Thank you everyone for replying, I’m not the best at explaining this but here’s a time line:
26th Dec - found out I was pregnant
2nd Jan - started bleeding (miscarrying)
9th Jan - Finished bleeding and arranged an ultrasound
11th Jan - Ultra sound found nothing, two negative tests (these were not store brought, they were done while I was there. Took another two home)
12th Jan - took one of those tests, still negative
19th Jan - took another one of those tests and still negative
12th Feb - started feeling extreme sickness (to this day, I still do)
13th Feb - discharge mixed with brown blood started (at least once a day since this date)
17th Feb - took a test from boots and it was positive
18th Feb - phoned a doctor and said to take on in a week and if it’s still positive, call back.
23rd Feb - took another test and it’s still positive, so going for a blood test

I’d like to add that those tests at the clinic, weren’t store bought. And I was told they didn’t test for hcg hormone

Also, the blood mixed with the discharge is what’s thrown me off completely. It could be implantation bleeding but why is it lasting so long? And I’m still waiting on my period to come.

OP posts:
Lottie2shoes · 23/02/2021 16:41

Ok. That is a little more clearer. It seems you are pregnant by what you have wrote. Bleeding does not necessarily really mean anything at this stage tbh. It could be implantation bleeding or just.
I have had pregnancies where I had bleeding throughout, sometimes heavy and bright red and they were successful.
I have also barely any bleeding but it was a miscarriage.
I would just take things slow and just wait and see what happens.

NoMoreMuchin · 23/02/2021 17:54

That is much more positive. 4 negative tests is pretty definitive. This must be a new pregnancy. The bleeding doesn't really mean much at this stage, like the pp I've had missed miscarriages with no blood and successful pregnancies with bleeding, and it is definitely possible to go from miscarriage to a new pregnancy without a period first. Going by your dates a scan is not going to pick anything up yet so rising HCG bloods are a good option to check the pregnancy is progressing and to pinpoint when a scan might l be more useful. It's really nerve-wracking to be pregnant after a miscarriage, day at a time x
