Feel trapped in my Job what else can I do.

I am a newly qualified social work, currently working in children's services and I am struggling. I cannot handle the pressure, the responsibility and it is really impacting on my mental health and I cannot sleep with the stress. I spoke to a close friend about this and she stated that I knew what I was getting into, I do know this.

What other Job could I do to make use of this degree which perhaps is not as stressful. I don't know what to do. I like the look of the Police but would take years to build up to the pay that I receive now and I cannot afford it.

Just feel so low and overwhelmed.

Hi, I'm a social worker too. Have you looked at other teams within children's services eg fostering or adoption? They are still pressured and stressful but I think it's a different kind of stress.

Look at safeguarding roles. They are all over and some very well paid. A big local engineering firm was recruiting recently as do schools, colleges, football clubs and companies with big apprentice departments.

I am an OT so had the chance to work with lots of social workers. You have my sympathy first practicioner jobs are always going to be intensely stressful. However you know your limits and that this is not right for you. Im going to suggest moving to a less stressful area of social work like adult care or hospital social work. Alternatively you could use your qualification in an alternative role such as family support worker or assessor for a charity. Whatever you do good luck!
