1st date! Picnic! Help!

So I started talking to a man from OLD at new year. We get on really well through messages and seem to have a lot in common but because of lockdown haven’t been able to meet in person. With lockdown now easing we are planning our first date. Because socialising inside is going to be off the cards for a while longer we are planning an outside, socially distanced picnic.

I have offered to do the picnic but now I am panicking. What does one pack for a first date picnic? I haven’t had a relationship for a long time and just have my kids for company so i am a bit out of practice. I want it to be special but not to try hard! Something that looks like I just casually threw it together.

Help me!

I went on a picnic for a first date. He brought a selection of various hams and meats, cheeses, chutney, baguette, wine. I was very impressed. I would also have been impressed by a cream tea

Oh thank you! Cream tea is a good idea. I am not a big fan of cheese but meats and baguette is also good.

I am so excited! I feel like a little kid lol not had a date in forever.

Gotta find something to wear to!

Baguette, with dips like hommous, cold meats, olives and cheese cubes. Tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole. Cake slices or cookies. Alcohol.

Or just sandwiches, potato salad, cherry tomatoes, crisps, some cake slices and alcohol. If you have a thermos, some tea or soup too.

Agree, go with simple but quality.

Fresh baguettes, decent cheese, ham, small jar of chutney, maybe salad leaves and cherry tomatoes.

Also perhaps some fancy fruit tartlets from patisserie bit of supermarket, or just grapes, strawberries and chocolate.

If you can't have wine, get an artisan bottle of something fizzy. Also bring water.

Very easy. Can't go wrong. xx

And a big bag of crisps!

Don't forget your picnic blanket and pick somewhere close to the toilets if you can!

Yes - this is there sort of thing isn’t it? With good quality cheese/ham/salami, easy to eat fruit such as grapes/strawberries/cherries, olives, mini tomatoes, baguette - you can do pretty much what you want.

Thanks everyone these are all great ideas. I will be driving so won’t be able to drink but will get something posh and non alcoholic.

Now just have to hope for some dry weather!

Just realised it's winter! Change of plan if it's cold.

Big thermos of soup and still, the fresh baguettes!

Hot sausage rolls (Greggs are darned good!)

Box of Maltesers or a Toblerone xx

I think I'd be pleased if cheese and figs were in the picnic. Or if not, cheese and grapes, but that's far inferior.

@Barrantsvidal I have no idea what to wear. I am going to have to buy something because I tend to just slob around in jeans and T-shirt’s.

You sound like you're trying very hard, OP. He might like you in jeans. I had a date with someone once who showed up very casually dressed. I was quite impressed with their self confidence.

You could take Gu for pudding, maybe.

What are you going to sit on?
