Festivals this year?

greyinganddecaying · 22/02/2021 17:10

Looking at Bojo's plan it looks like gigs (indoors and outdoors) could be back on by June/July - anyone want to make a guess on the likelihood of festivals in July/August being on?

I know bigger events have cancelled (Glastonbury etc) but smaller/later ones haven't called it yet.

Not sure if I'd want to go, but last years' ticket has rolled forward to this year & I may lose out if I don't.

If they did, it would be limited numbers I think.

peak2021 · 22/02/2021 18:08

I think very limited. Cannot see Notting Hill Carnival or the Hyde Park concerts happening, for example.

BarbarasStripedHands · 22/02/2021 18:11

They've said an end to all restrictions, including social distancing, so technically they should be able to go ahead.

Anyone who believes social distancing will end in June must clearly still believe in the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny!

AuntieDolly · 22/02/2021 18:14

Even if they did, would you go?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/02/2021 18:15

Yes I think they will, limited amount of people.

TheVolturi · 22/02/2021 18:17

They've not announced anything yet have they?

MarmedukeDuke · 22/02/2021 18:34

No, our local ones in May and August have already been cancelled.

OrigamiOwl · 22/02/2021 18:36

I was wondering this. I've got tickets to a couple of stadium sized gigs in June (bought week before covid, should have been last year but times into this year). I can't see them being allowed to go ahead then, but the announcement today mentioned behind restriction free by June, so who knows?

Theforest · 22/02/2021 18:39

I am wondering this. Have tickets for Hyde Park in July. Would still feel uncomfortable in a large crowd even it is was outdoor. Limited numbers would be good if we have had our jabs by then too.

Why do you say that?
MarmedukeDuke · 22/02/2021 18:40

@ThroughThickAndThin01

Yes I think they will, limited amount of people.
They mostly wouldn't be able to afford to run them with reduced numbers. That's why ours isn't running. Because they have to have sold a very large number of tickets to be able to afford to run the event.
MyDcAreMarvel · 22/02/2021 19:01

@skippy67 because we have been there before , remember “it will all be over by Christmas”.

Babamamananarama · 22/02/2021 19:01

I work in outdoor events and would say very, very, very unlikely.

The planning timescales for these events are far longer than we currently have. And the costs of potential cancellation at the moment are too prohibitive.

I think there will be some outdoor arts events - music, theatre etc - one day things or short runs, probably at much shorter notice than would normally happen.

Seasidemumma77 · 22/02/2021 19:08

I've got my fingers crossed that Wilderness will go ahead, the children and I really want to go.

Impatientwino · 22/02/2021 19:18

We have tickets for a small local child friendly festival in July and if it's still on we will definitely go. It's all outside and my children love it!

We also have a babysitter booked to collect them so we can stay for the evening in the not so child friendly bit and drink cider and listen to some bands Grin

Impatientwino · 22/02/2021 19:19

I should add I work in events and I'm not sure it will happen but I'm trying to be positive

greyinganddecaying · 22/02/2021 20:15

@AuntieDolly

Even if they did, would you go?

Thanks all. Not sure whether I'd go or not tbh. I'll be fully vaccinated by then, but the others I'd be going with won't be.

I expect there will be no large scale festivals, there may be small scale festivals.
But even the small scale festivals take a lot of planning and committing to costs with arranging all the facilities

I have dates in the calendar for events rescheduled from last year, but will just see if they actually happen

On the current vaccine schedule I will probably only have been able to get the first dose in time for event number one, and might just manage to bet the second dose in time for event number two. That doesn’t allow for the vaccines to bed in, and could also be a worry for organisers that their customer base still may not want to come

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 22/02/2021 22:35

Honestly, I think if anyone thinks there's a chance of festivals this year. They are living in cloud-cuckoo land.

Even assuming that festivals were permitted by the summer. I think the logistics of trying to organise one at 6 months notice would be tricky. Doesn't it normally take a full year to organise something like T in the Park/Latitude etc?

Plus lots of overseas bands may not be able to make it due to COVID in their countries and ongoing Brexit rumblings.

No bloody chance.

SpringisSpinning · 22/02/2021 22:47

Most regular festivals know what they are doing, what happens where etc.
We have one postponed from last year and fully expect it to go ahead

MuddyWalks · 22/02/2021 22:54

Noooo. The local one near me is a nightmare for locals.

greyinganddecaying · 23/02/2021 23:43

I see that Bluedot festival is planning to go ahead. I'm surprised tbh

OP posts:
spongedog · 24/02/2021 00:02

I have tickets for a late Aug festival, rolled over from last year.

In a strange way I wouldnt mind if they cancelled again the lineup is much worse than previous years.

MorriseysGladioli · 24/02/2021 00:05

A festival would be the one thing I'd so love to do if possible.
Even a small, crap one.
